From my friend who works in a hospital lab:

Quote :
"LC: did i tell you about what hapepned to my boss?
me: nope
LC: so, she was working nights over a weekend and apparently had the flu
she handled a synovial fluid that was positive for group A strep, somehow contaminated herself, went into to toxic shock and was dead by the next saturday"

I believe in highschool they gave out awards to the people who never missed a day of school. I believe there was one guy that NEVER missed between kindergarten and and 12th grade...
Why would people encourage kids to come to school when they are sick?

i know it is disgusting!!!! i guess they're just trying to motivate kids to come to school or something but sick kids need to be kept home.

and if you are in college or grad school and you are sick, you should have the sense to stay home and not take everyone else down with you!

we got to exempt 1 exam fr-jr year if we didn't miss a single day of that class. sr year you got to exempt 2.

one year a girl got in a terrible MVA after school and broke her leg. full leg cast in a wheel chair broken with possibility for surgery later. it was BAD. she had her mom bring her to school for this ONE class so she wouldn't miss it and could still exempt the exam. it was a teacher whose exams everyone wanted to exempt, and the teacher felt terrible.

i think its generational

me with my boss
me: [one of the employees] just called, said he was feeling sick so i told him to take the day off
boss: i don't understand sick days, i never take off
me: if someone is sick i'd rather they stay home
boss: well how sick is he, he can probably still work
me: well the last time someone had that attitude it started a chain reaction and 8 people missed work anywhere from a day to a week
me: its easy to make up one day, it was almost impossible for me to cover everything from the office flu epidemic
boss: well he needs to not be sick

wow, that sucks. I know a cop who was sick back in the day, and came to work even though he was not at the top of his game.....he ended up getting shot. He survived thank God, but he himself blames not being totally 100% for that incident
