If people could drink some booze with their parents, smoke a little pot with their friends, and maybe even eat a mushroom or two, then they'd get the "I'm young and I need to rebel and experiment" phase out of the way rather harmlessly. Instead, we ban everything, and kids end up drinking cough-syrup, huffing air-freshener, or over-playing the "choking game". Consciousness exploration and self-medication are and should be natural parts of human development and life, and forcibly preventing them often results in "desperate" measures -- including trying to get high off of substances that no one can or should even try to get high off of, and maladaptively self-medicating with substances because education about responsible use is unavailable. (kind of like the sex ed debate...)

^^^when i was 15 i almost died because i ate a bunch of yellowjackets and downed a bottle of tussin. it was a fucking hell of a trip, but i think mushrooms would have been a lot safer.
