Due out in May. A new trailer was just released yesterday confirming that King Hippo is back, as is the pink jumpsuit training montage! The old trailer showed Glass Joe and Von Kaiser as well. It was also just announced that you will be able to use the Wii Balance Board for dodging.

Disco Kid? Was Don Flamenco somehow offensive?

I think they just wanted to introduce a new character with Disco Kid. Don Flamenco was a little boring in my opinion, but at least he looked just like Adam Sandler.

Is Don out for sure? It only showed a few of the characters, and if you're refering to the sequence of them they also left out Piston Honda.

No they haven't confirmed anything about anyone being left out. They've only shown four opponents so far: Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, King Hippo, and Disco Kid.

nm just saw that Don Flamenco has been confirmed.

And from the article Drovkin posted, we have these money wasters to consider using:

Given my track record with the original I don't think I want to play this when part of the normal operation of the game involves punching motions.

It also supports old-school NES controls.

Super Punch-Out is on the Virtual Console next week

So is this just the original game but in 3D? It was a pretty short game so I hope they've expanded on it, especially since it will probably cost a bunch.

Don't own a wii, played Rock Band on a wii once:

So, punching with one arm seems pretty intuitive. How do you control punching with the other? Does the nunchuck attachment have a motion sensor as well?

I hope this is good. The developer doesn't have much under their belt. I'm thinking about getting a Wii for someone's birthday and this would be a great game to bring out at parties.

"It may not be a TKO, but Punch-Out!! on the Wii is certainly a knock-out. We've already entered the ring of public opinion with our review, but let's find out what the others in the peanut gallery have to say about it. It appears that -- much like Little Mac -- the series has aged gracefully and found a nice fit on the Wii.

* Gamespy (90/100): "Punch-Out!! is destined to become one of this generation's top classics, right up there with Super Mario Galaxy. It's one heckuva peace offering for Nintendo's jilted lifers, an elaborate brainteaser for everyone who picks it up, and absolutely the best Punch-Out!! to date. If you're still fishing for a reason to own a Wii, this is it."
* Game Informer (90/100): "Despite these complaints, the single-player has always been the focus of Punch-Out, and Next Level delivers. What better way to show your buddy up than to totally annihilate the boxer that just KO'd him?"
* GamePro (90/100): "There's no denying it: Punch-Out!! is some of the most fun I've had on the Wii in quite some time. A spectacular trip down memory lane, Punch-Out!! manages to capture the old-school essence that made the 1987 original such a success, all the while integrating just enough new material to help it hold its own. While Punch-Out!! is by no means perfect, it's undoubtedly one of the finest arcade-inspired titles to grace store shelves in this "next gen" era, and is without a doubt worth any hardcore fight-fan's hard-earned cash."
* GameTrailers (85/100): "It's disappointing that the motion controls are more a novelty than an effective way to play, but the personality, nostalgic nods, hidden goodies, and battle-tested, edge-of-your-seat gameplay demonstrate that some things never go out of style."
"

With comments like "It's disappointing that the motion controls are more a novelty than an effective way to play" I would highly doubt motion plus support would be in there.

Okay so I just played it for about an hour and a half and I'm impressed. I played both of the older two Punch-Out games so I was pleased to find all the familiar faces (and even their music) in the game.

Initially I thought that they dumbed it down and made it way too easy:

- If you make it through the three rounds, the win doesn't automatically go to the computer, it actually has some kind of way of calculating a winner.
- You get three rematches as opposed to the one rematch of previous games.
- If you get taken out by a specific boxer, you can go to "exhibition mode" and fight him there without having to go through the whole circuit to get to him.

I thought these were giving us way too much leeway until I got to Don Flamenco who is the champion of the major circuit. He's a lot more difficult this time around and still resembles Adam Sandler. The next round was against Aran Ryan who I barely squeezed by, then Soda Popinksi who utterly destroyed me. I haven't played Punch-Out in a while, so I was a little rusty, but your reflexes really need to be up there in this game. In the older ones I could usually get by just by dodging except for a few cases, but in this one you really need to implement the duck and block more.

I didn't try it out with the motion controls or with the balance board yet, I figured there wouldn't be a point to it. Given how fast you need to react in this game and how poorly the motion controls have been in other games, I didn't even bother. I'm pretty sure that the game plays best just by turning the Wiimote on its side like an NES controller.

All the changes that they have made I would say are great. Obviously the graphics and sound have been updated, and unlike lots of remakes these days, they decided NOT TO FUCK WITH THE GAMEPLAY, which was the main selling point of the old school ones. The only real difference I can tell in gameplay is your super punch system. In the original NES, every time you hit your opponent at a specific time, you got a star that could be used as a super punch. In this go around, you get the stars the same way, but you can only go up to a max of three. Instead of using the stars one by one, you combine their force... so if you save up three stars without getting hit and unleash your super punch, you deal A LOT of damage.

I haven't tried out multiplayer yet, so no opinions on how that works.

So far, I'd recommend getting it.

It didn't automatically go to the computer on the first Punch-Out IIRC.

I recall the manual of the original Punch Out saying that the decision was based on the number of points you scored. The number of points needed to win by decision generally increased as you progressed through the game.

One time, and I mean just once (I played/beat the game dozens of times) I beat Tyson with a decision.

I remember my jaw hitting the floor, because I thought it was impossible.

And this is definitely on my goozex list, hopefully I'll be seeing it in my mailbox in a few months.

The decision was very volatile. Yes, you could win (I remember beating Tyson several times via decision) but even the owner's manual says that there is a bias towards the other guy. For instance I tried fighting Glass Joe one time, knocking him down twice in each round and beating him up til his power bar was almost filled up, and not getting hit at all. He still won.
