did anybody participate in this? basically you get to write questions to the president and then people can vote whether or not that's a good question. it's been going on the last couple days and this morning he's going to answer the top questions

I'd like to predict that people will vote for some stupid questions.

I wish I would have, but I thought that whatever I would want to ask was probably already asked, since I don't think I really have anything unique to ask.

I asked if he's had to wear a suit every day that he's been in office.

Most of the highest rated questions are about marijuana legalization. I'm curious if he'll actually take any of them and answer them as thoroughly as he answers others.

btw - I don't see a teleprompter

I predict he'll answer the question vaguely, then another more specific marijuana legalization question will soon become highly rated, and he'll have to answer it, too. This will make news.

Ron Paul would've said 'yes'... and with his internet following, I bet there'd have been a similar site like this.[/just sayin]

How do you find his answers to specific questions? ...and don't tell me to listen to the live stream.

Also, what is this "Google Moderator"? Is this shit Google-powered?

Also, is anyone else having trouble with the search function?

"In this moment of national economic crisis, the top four questions under the heading of “Financial security” concerned marijuana; on the budget, people voted up questions about marijuana to positions 1-4; marijuana was in the first and third positions under “jobs”; people boosted a plug for legalizing marijuana to No. 2 under “health care reform.” And questions about decriminalizing pot occupied spots 1 and 2 under “green jobs and energy.”

After taking questions lower on the list, Obama addressed the pot issue head on, noting the huge number of questions about marijuana legalization and remarking with a chuckle, “I don't know what that says about the online audience."

"The answer is no, I don't think that is a good strategy to grow our economy," he said, as the audience in the room applauded and joined him in a laugh."

He was reading off of a plasma/LCD screen located on the back wall. They are trying to be sneakier with the teleprompter, since so many people mention it. His typical style is to move his eyes/head while reading. Now using a large tv, the words are large enough to read without noticeable movement.

I'm quite sad that the POTUS can't formulate his own ideas and speeches.

Who says he doesn't come up with his own ideas and speeches? The speech he wanted to give on the issue could have been written by him the night before and transcribed into the teleprompter. It just ensures that he doesn't slip up or forget part of his speech. I guarantee he does have speech writers/reviewers as well, and he definitely doesn't write all of his speeches, but it's pretty unfair to say he doesn't do any of his own work without proper evidence.

As opposed to what? Every president in the past century who has had a speech-writer/speech-checker and read it from somewhere? It looks better than reading it off a piece of paper sitting on the podium, so they use a teleprompter. It's nothing new.

Or do you think that somehow a president must be able to memorize his speeches or else he didn't formulate them?

I hope a POTUS would at least be able to memorize the finer points of 'his' speech and not fumble and hem and haw when the teleprompter breaks.

A teleprompter is a tool, not a crutch. If he is unable to memorize a few important points (that's what good orators do) and b.s. his way through a speech, then that's pretty sad.

Also, having an speechwriter/editor is DEF. different than someone who has all/most of their material written for them. Unless he has a learning disability (which the two ivy league diplomas would point against) there is no excuse for not prepping beforehand.

He might be a good orator, but he's no speechwriter.

They don't, but I expect them to seamlessly move back and forth between prepared statements and ad-libbed remarks. As vilified as Clinton was, he was able to do that with aplomb. If it's not put on a teleprompter, the current POTUS is unable to communicate at all.
