So I'm getting to be an adult and stuff and looking to buy a house. I'm not originally from here, although I know all about how bad downtown Durham is. I've started looking, and from brief searches online I've noticed a lot of big, newly renovated houses in downtown Durham going for cheap. Durham is centrally located to the 2 major cities I need to be near. Is it THAT bad, or are they really trying to clean it up? Anyone think there's an actual chance of the neighborhoods getting significantly better in the next 5-10 years?

fuck downtown.there are some nicely priced houses in good areas near Southpoint and between 55 and Fayetteville St.

yeah, but when there are foreclosed homes for $30,000, it doesn't sound like a bad investment if there's potential for the neighborhoods to improve

there are some perfectly safe, beautiful parts of downtown durham. it is becoming a great art center, there are lots of young professionals moving into some of the areas. my mom lives off a really nice part of west club. if you want to pm me an address I can tell you what type of neighborhood its in
