Anyone know the cheapest place to get a 15.4 inch laptop screen replaced. The laptop is a Dell inspiron 1525 BTW if that helps. Anyone have any estimates? The one I got was around 150$.

buy a compatible LCD on ebay and install it yourself.

$150 is pretty cheap though if it includes somebody else installing it for you

I was thinking I might buy one and do it myself but not so sure on the difficulty.

If my laptop goes up to 1280X800 and is 15.4 inches is it a WXGA?

$150 is what I'd charge. Its certainly possible to do yourself if you're technically inclined, but its a pretty delicate procedure and its easy to damage things.

is that what you charge just to install it or do you supply the lcd too?

I just took apart the lcd to see how hard is it too take out. It came out pretty easily and I put it back in and it worked again (cracked screen still though). So I ordered a screen and plan on doing it myself.

I then noticed I had to remove the brackets and put them on the new lcd which should make things considerably more complicated but I should be good.

Any tips on getting the lcd into the brackets without messing it up. I'm assuming you put the top part in first and then lower the bottom half slowly but there are metal pins in the way on the bracket. I spread the bracket a little near the top because those were the hardest pins to get past. Any other tips or can I simply just push it into the bracket and still be ok?

qntmfred: That'd be with the LCD. 1525 panels are cheap.

GroundBeef: Um, if you're having to spread or bend things you're doing something wrong.

I spread the main bracket a little, it should go right back into place once I screw in the two side brackets.
