Looking to get some Chicago Deep dish pizza... Anyone know if there is an authentic (or as authentic as possible) Chicago style pizza joint in/around Raleigh?

How about some real pizza... you know, New York/New Haven style.

Best pizza ever:
link died, but it's Pepe's in New Haven.

Sweet, I didn't realize there was an Uno around here until I saw this thread. I'm going to have to go there soon.

And...

lily's used to be my favorite, but their service was so bad i just couldn't stand to go there anymore.

It's not Chicago deep dish pizza in Raleigh! It's Digiorno's.

true deep dish is good, but you have to be in the mood for it; can't just eat it casually

thin crust is always great; I can eat a whole pie by myself

Old Chicago in Wake forest. not quite raleigh, but close.

Manchester's at pinecrest pt. (corner of leesville and pinecrest rd) has what they claim to be chicago pizza.

i'm not a chicago pizza aficionado, so i don't know if it's REAL and AUTHENTIC or whatever.

^^ my stepfather is from Chicago so we used to eat at Manchester's off Falls of the Neuse Rd. near 540, not sure if it moved (I think they have/had multiple locations). UNO's is at Brier Creek and its pretty good but if he wants the real deal he actually orders them from Chicago.

Italian Beef sandwiches FTW (we order those too and they are actually perfect)

UNOs is close, but not like the real thing. Order a frozen one and have it shipped.

Went to Cooney's Island in Mission Valley, their Chicago dog actually isn't to far off

I got free gift certificates from them once because they hid their C sanitation grade rating behind some t-shirts they were selling.

No, there is no good Chicago deep dish in Raleigh. The "UNO Chicago Grill" chain does suck. It is not the same as "Pizzeria Uno". They sold out. Lou Malnati's is far superior to UNO's. You can order frozen Malnati's off their site. They ship them in dry ice. This is a far better option than having a southerner attempt to make it for you locally.

Manchesters is your best bet for Chicago pizza but it's thin crust style. They were started by the dude who owned Jake's pizza on Algonquin in the NW suburbs. This is where my little league teams would go after games so I can vouch for it. I think MC's was sold but it's still the best I know of in Raleigh.

Did they include a promise that next time they'd at least wash their hands after cooking the pizza on a toilet seat? Seriously - here's a gift certificate to our scummy establishment. Enjoy.

After watching a few Monica Laliberte segments on WRAL I seriously wonder what it takes to get a 'C'. "Rat carcass found in the egg salad. This restaurant scores a 92." In other words she always goes down a list of things that sound pretty bad, yet the restaurants always end up with a low A or a high B.

I guess you just have to find a different location of the same restaurant in that scenario.

also, about how much is the the standard (classic?) deep dish?

^^^ I ended up giving them to a coworker. There's no reason for a pizza place like that to have a C. Barbecue restaurants on the other hand...
