but i know whining or getting angry doesn't solve anything. so i don't even know what i'm supposed to feel or act like now. court costs, lawyer fees, interlock installation, treatment classes, 400% car insurance increases for a few years -- all this for driving over the speed limit when i passed all the field sobriety tests? blow over .08, system takes you in.

so i've been telling people, after a night of drinking, when your friends tell you that you're okay to drive: go the speed limit and don't swerve.

I never hung out with many drunks but some potheads I knew used to drive around smoking blunts. The worst was when a dude was actually smoking a bowl in his car, he was taking a hit on the Western Gorman intersection. I always stopped somewhere to smoke so it wouldn't smell and I wouldn't get caught. As for drinking and driving, it's a lot more difficult.

if I do drink while I'm out, I have a 1 beer every 2 hours rule and with a max of 2 beers and I stop drinking 2 hours before I drive home.

i work at a bar, i see 100 people a night get smashed and then drive home, in 5 years, not one accident that ive been made aware of, and i would be told if there had been. point is, the vast majority of people who drive home drunk are so paranoid about the fact that they are driving drunk that they usually end up being a better drive as a result. i highly doubt a guy leaving a bar is thinking about being a badass when he gets in the car, and if he is, yeah, its usually that guy that wraps his car around a pole or crosses the center line, but most likely that douche would have done the same thing sober. and solinari, have you ever used your cell phone while driving?f

When someone unreasonably endangers others, that is wrong. So the question becomes, "At what point does one's behavior unreasonably endanger others?" Some say at 0.08, some say higher, or lower, etc. He admitted to speeding and swerving, which are already illegal, so of course he should've been pulled. But for the whole drunk driving issue, some people can handle alcohol better than others -- so, as long as they know their limit (the real issue,) then driving buzzed can be safe enough as to not constitute an unreasonable danger to others. That being said, many people don't know their limit, and should avoid drunk driving. But you simply cannot say that 100% of cases of drivers having a BAC of 0.08 present an unreasonable danger. When you say that, and people know it isn't true, the whole message of "be safe" tends to get dismissed*. I've driven buzzed plenty of times, and I've decided to not drive buzzed plenty of times. It's all about responsibility -- not BAC.
