what, exactly, do you mean by unlicensed?

also, "free" and "legal" are almost always mutually exclusive when it comes to digital music.

um, yes.

more record companies are starting to realize the potential benefit of offering free downloads of certain singles, but the vast majority are still stuck in the dark ages.

the majority of musicians don't have record contracts and would love people to download their music.

^for serious. Every day I realize most of the regulars on here are so rooted in stealing that they can't even fathom how the real world works.

^^i wasn't referring to independent musicians, that was sort of implied by, you know, me mentioning "record companies." that's a completely different thing.

^then you were completely off topic, and added absolutely nothing to the thread with your now multiple responses. You didn't say shit about record companies in your OP, where you made the stupid assertion that the two terms are mutually exclusive, followed by a second stupid assertion that all music is distributed by record companies.

Now you make a third stupid reply. How do the terms unlicensed, free and legal go into your brain, then come out with "oh I should totally talk about commercial music distributed by record companies, then follow up by saying I was totally ignoring the original intent of the thread by saying I was purposefully not talking about independent artists"

C'mon man.

^^well then how is this relevant to this thread?

the guy is looking for unlicensed music, which often means unsigned / independent bands.

and to partially answer his question:

http://reverbnation.com is a good (free to stream / sometimes free to download) resource for independent artists of all sorts.

"then you were completely off topic"

that's why i asked what he meant by "unlicensed."

because that's how the vast majority of digital music is distributed. even a shit ton of independent artists use services like tunecore to make a few bucks off of their album sales.
