it sort of sucks now. i just noticed how terrible music videos look nowadays ... and all the once good rappers are old. and the new rappers just love to dance and clown.

I've always distinguished between rap and hip hop. Hip hop still pumps out good shit, rap hasn't been fun for me since the mid-late 90s.

yeah ... i understand Rap vs Hiphop, but the genre as a whole has lost it. i mean people through up these good under under ground dirty pack back rappers, but they really aren't that good either. Hiphop was about being good and having a sense of star power too (or swagger is what they call it now).

and most of this new jack sh!t is borderline homo. or like pseudo-homo.

did you stop listening to Wu-Tang after that or something? Liquid Swordz and all the Ghostface Albums came out after Cuban Links.

You don't understand shit. Tons..and I mean tons of good fucking hip hop has come out this decade and it isn't under under ground dirty pack back rappers you ape.

If you are lumping rap and hip hop under the same "genre" umbrella these days, then you are clueless. Get the hell out of this thread.

its gotten to the point where a producer makes everything about the song down to the point where he even tells the artist what to say and how to say it in some cases. Thus, the "singer" has no connection with the lyrics.

TuPac would frown upon such.

I wouldn't recommend distinguishing between rap and hip hop.

hip hop is a culture that encompasses rap. as well as other things. like graffiti, breakdancing and DJ'ing. its a part of a larger genre of things. so you shouldn't really say as much "rap bad, hip hop good..." but "good rap, bad rap"

It was about the time Rap went from "thug life" to "club life". It used to be all about social injustice and life on the street. But now it's about, "The girl got low, got low, got, low."

In truth, once you start getting sponsored by Sony, you can't go around talking about killing cops. So you turn to hittin' it in the club - i.e. substituting sexual prowess to show your manlyness.

mid 90's

occasional gems surface still

but like ludacris's character said in the movie Crash it's just a bunch of mumbling idiot puppets controlled by white executives

the basis of rap/hiphop has been lost since the mid-early 80's now it's mostly just the same rehashed junk...

^that's correct, they were also garbage

the correct answer to this thread is, rap was never good. Both it and hip hop are meant for functional retards and people who can literally have any cultural phenomenon shoved down their throats.

When Tupac moved to cuba.

Actually, I think it started to suck after Eminem became the best lyrical rapper, and all the black guys just started dancing around with big booty hoes and not even trying to compete lyrically.
