i got my plasma back in november and have noticed that the Left 4 Dead icons are burnt in pretty hard. are there any reputable programs i can run through the service usb port, or am i better off to call a professional? i googled and only jscreenfix popped up, so i'd like to know if there are any other alternatives

I've seen jscreenfix before, it's pretty crazy to watch. I've read that it helps.

Just keep using the tv and turn the settings up brighter, but take care not to let anything stay on the screen for long. No more gaming until its gone. If you do game, no L4D, and turn the brightness down again.

ok so my tv has a whitewash function and signal pattern function which are supposed to reduce the burn in, but i ran them each for an hour (per samsung's website) and i can't tell a difference. should i keep doing that? i really only use that tv for gaming or watching sports (both of which have tickers or some other permanent logo), so i don't know what to do

i was under the impression that burn-in was pretty much a thing of the past (at least, i've had my plasma for more than a year and haven't had any problems...though i suppose our usage is pretty different)

*shrug*

when i worked at cc we were able to wipe the screen after leavin the tvs on for 11 hrs/day on the same screen. which makes me wonder how much left4 dead do you play?? i've left my samsung on overnight showing menus and never had issues w. burnin. i would recommend just leaving the white scrolling pattern on over night should clean it up. also what are your settings? running the tv in torch mode can cause pretty bad ir.

Running it an hour isn't gonna fix anything. You need to run it a looong time.

i'll play it an hour or two a couple times a week, nothing serious i wouldn't say. plus the images aren't on the screen for more than 20-30 minutes at a time before there's a loading screen.

i'll try leaving it on signal pattern overnight and see what happens. it's supposed to be more effective than the whitewash

even if loading screens or other crap comes on eventually, if the majority of the time in the game has stuff in the same place on the screen, it's going to burn in afaik.

I never had any burn-in issues with my plasma and FIFA, and I played WAY more than 4 hours a week.

Weird.

Yeah I know plasmas are supposed to be MUCH better about it nowadays (not sure why, technically.) Maybe it's a brand issue?

what model plasma do you have stingray? the lower end samsungs have much worse ir i.e. the pn42a450,pn42a400,pn50a400. and what are your settings like? are you running the tv on dynamic w/ contrast and brightness maxed out?

pretty sure its the pn42A400, 720p

i checked the settings and the contrast was pretty high, but the brightness was only about 50, and it wasn't on dynamic.

contrast should usually set pretty high(~90) w. brightness around 50 for the best picture on the 4/5/6 series sets. i'd recommend goin in to the menu and setting your pixel shift to 4-4-1. also keep in mind the more hours you have on the tv the less it becomes prone to burn in so i'd probably leave it on test patterns for few nights even after the burn in goes away. good luck w. it

This is why LCDs are superior for gaming.

I'm actually in the market for an HDTV (probably a little later this year) and I see a bunch of sites trying to tell me that plasma burn in is a thing of the past. Then I see threads like this.

StingrayRush, sorry I can't offer any advice on the topic. Good luck clearing up your display.
