I think we need to clear up who on here likes and doesn't like hockey.

I do not care about the sport, this isn't a knock on anybody who likes it, thats cool but don't expect me to care just because we have a team in raleigh.

Its a sport played on ice in a place where people who live here don't exactly see iced over lakes and ponds.....like ever.

Same thing why I don't understand people who grew up playing soccer, all my recollections are of my group pretending to be jordan, bogues, or LJ shootin some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys Who were up to no good Startin making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air' I whistled for a cab and when it came near the licensce plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror if anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought man forget it yo holmes to Bel-Air

^^^How funny that I had your exact same outlook in Sports just five years ago. Now I follow the Canes just as hard as I do NC State. Just go and attend a game some day......take some friends or family with you.....you might enjoy it more than you think. It's great entertainment and in dire times like we live today where people are losing homes and jobs everywhere, it's always good to have sports (especially pro sports in Raleigh) to escape to.

I could never enjoy hockey either. But people were always like "Oh, if you go to a hockey game, you'll change your mind. It's a totally different game when you see it live."

So I went to a Hurricanes game, and it SUCKED. There were as many stoppages as in basketball, and I could barely even see the puck. So now, when anybody says "Have you been to a hockey game?" I say "Yes. I have. I don't like hockey."

jk. i grew up liking hockey and like football i liked a hockey team before we got the hurricanes (GASP). but obviously i still cheer for the canes. unless they play a certain other team.

and i've seen ice on ponds and lakes around here a lot---or i did when i was growing up. if there's one thing the south is notorious for, it is ice. ice storm, anyone? playing on a frozen lake or pond here is dangerous though (you know, more than normal). but i still did it. and we used to play roller hockey like ALL the time when i was little in my neighborhood in the cul de sacs (is that right? i don't know, but you get what i mean).

i also grew up playing soccer. but then again, i also lived in mexico so that is probably why.

ps i didn't say ice storms freeze ponds. but sometimes ponds are frozen during an ice storm. just saying, ice isn't foreign to the south.

i only enjoyed hockey at first because it was an excuse to go drink with friends, then i started to learn more about what was going on and some of the strategy and i really like it

i still can't say the same about baseball though, so far i still only enjoy the drinking with friends
