ive thought about this, i didnt like it at first

but we cant spend 30 million on a lineman as badly as we need one, that seems more risky than bringing in stafford... we have 3 first round picks... we will get lineman later in the round

I honestly think the best thing for the franchise would be to pass on this pick. They can't actually do it because it'd be a PR nightmare and the fans would revolt, but having to pay out soooo much money for one of these top prospects will hurt the franchise more than help it. The system is broken and I don't like any of their options.

I guess they're best move is copy MIA and play J. Smith and Monroe off each other in contract negotiations, taking whoever will sign for less. Neither of these guys are elite, they only got to this point because they held water while Oher and A. Smith's stock have dropped. Taking the sure double like MIA did last year with Long is preferable than going for the homerun with Stafford.

If they guarantee ~40m for Stafford and he busts it will cripple them.

I think they should have a contingency plan in case they can't trade down. Like they set up something with Jason White, saying "If we can't trade it, we're gonna call you 5 minutes before and you'll be the first pick. Then pay him like $1,000 and he's famous for life.

The problem with Curry is that it's virtually impossible for an OLB to live up to 1st pick money. There's a reason that the #1 pick is almost always QB/LT/DE, gaining an elite QB or the ability to generate/nullify a pass rush are the most efficient ways if improving your team.

Curry would play the SAM amidst a poor front 7 at DET. Between his responsibilities in coverage and stopping the run you're just not going to feel enough of an impact to justify the ~30m price tag.
