im suprised no one has done this before, it seems like common sense to have two mics where the ears would be to get this effecthope they do more
4/14/2009 4:20:18 PM
they should make one thats like you're laying in a hotel bed while in the room adjacent to you, two people are fucking thier brains out and the walls are paper thin

4/14/2009 4:32:05 PM
That was my first thought when he says, "ok now we're going to put a bag over your head." I was like, woah woah woah buddy, we won't be doing that.
4/14/2009 4:36:32 PM
that was amazing...i've never heard audio quite like that before... at first, i didn't think my headphoens were plugged in and the sound was actually coming out of the speakers on the computer

It would have been better if they just did the haircut without talking about it and how it all works the whole time. Part of making something creative is letting people experience it and understanding that some people will get it on different levels than others. This is why artists don't write an article to accompany each of their pieces describing the "what" and "why" of the piece.
4/14/2009 4:47:06 PM
I don't think it's really supposed to be an art piece, it's just a cool audio thingy. In fact, it's more likely that it was intended as a creative way to present a biological principle.[Edited on April 14, 2009 at 5:13 PM. Reason : .][Edited on April 14, 2009 at 5:14 PM. Reason : .]

4/14/2009 6:17:03 PM
[old]
4/14/2009 7:11:07 PM
I think as a general rule, if a thread has made it to 28 posts without anyone saying they've seen it before you can probably just keep that "[old]" to yourself.
4/14/2009 7:17:57 PM
Good thing I said I've seen it before on the 27th post then.
4/14/2009 7:40:31 PM
I remember something similar to this at Epcot Center. They used the hairdryer in that one. Felt pretty real.
4/14/2009 8:22:23 PM
I remember the first one of these things I heard was the shaking matchbox one. http://www.virtualbarber.org/page.php?32

4/14/2009 8:50:04 PM
^add smell-o-vision to that, and I'll pay a cool million....right this second.
4/14/2009 8:51:10 PM
Was it really that much better with headphones, over speakers?
4/14/2009 10:09:34 PM
Haven't tried it with speakers, but I imagine it won't be nearly the same effect unless they're close to your head. Even then, the stereo separation sucks because they're not isolated from each other.
4/14/2009 10:15:13 PM
speakers, for me, did not offer the illusion of movement of the sound 360-degrees.for me, speakers make the sound move in a plane, whereas, the headphones made it feel like the source of the sound was moving through space, if that makes any sense
4/14/2009 10:28:48 PM
disney used to do something similar in the alien encounter exhibit/experience thing. they removed it bc it was giving people heart attacks. it was fucking awesome though. i almost ripped my brother's hand off http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExtraTERRORestrial_Alien_Encounterthere's a lilo & stitch thing there now.
