Has anyone tried any of the various products out there? There are tons of products but very few have reviews. I want to get HDMI from my home theater setup to the master bedroom (about 70 ft cable run) and return IR to control various devices connected to a receiver.

This one looks decent. Anyone have a better suggestion?

And for the repeater just search Crutchfield/Smarthome websites for the IR Repeater and then find it cheaper elsewhere.

Is an HDMI cable going to be able to carry the 1080p signal that far without losing the signal?

The thing I posted boosts and transmits the HDMI signal over 2 CAT5e/CAT6 cables and has a built-in IR repeater. There are tons of different things like this out there (including HDMI over fiber), but not a lot of objective information on them.

My understanding is an HDMI cable is not going to carry a usable 1080p signal more than about 30 ft.

(personally used this, works flawlessly... this was on a ~100ft run to a projector... handled 1080p without a hitch.)
(also, you probably want to use shielded solid cat6)
and then an IR repeater solution from somewhere like niles or buffalo. i'd go with cable based since you're running cat6 anyway for the HDMI baluns. just run another cat6 run alongside the other 2 and use 3 of the wires.

I've seen an hdmi/dvi over cat6 system installed in a home theater and it was running flawlessy at 1080p from a sony G90 crt projector.

So use my personal experience (which isnt worth much lol) as one data point. The guy said he paid >400$ for the system. So it looks like its not the one you have proposed but I have seen such an idea implemented and work. He did speak highly of it.

I personally wouldn't go over 30 feet with an HDMI cable.....which I have also seen work in a home theater environment. These projectors may have higher receiver sensitivity than a consumer grade TV.

The good news is you will know if it fails .

i asked about the goal. what he wants to do is clear but he didn't say anything about his reasoning for running the cable aka his goal. for example if he's trying to just send his bluray player signal to his bed room he might as well buy a second player for instead of spending 400$ on extensions ...see my point

you'll get much more flexibility out of a dedicated IR system, and it won't require much additional effort to install at all if you're already in the wall to run cat6 for the HDMI baluns.

(in a previous life, i was a crestron installer/programmer/integrator... IR was the bane of my existence i much prefer rs232c)
