This is the most useless program ever, why the hell would i just want to view a powerpoint file and not be able to edit it if need be. The worst part is, I cant figure out how to uninstall it, since when you go in the control panel and pograms and features, it only gives you the optio of repairing. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

one would think that the application's name would be a dead giveaway as to its functionality.

also, how are you in college and don't have office/openoffice/something_that_can_make_powerpoint_presentations?

&

maybe you are the most useless computer user ever since you can't read and comprehend, nor can you think outside of that little box of yours and figure out why .pps files or the program are useful

[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 11:49 AM. Reason : .pps not .ppv. duh!]

I do have full Office, and wasnt trying to figure out what Viewer was, I undertstand it is only a viewer. The issue is it opens all ppt related files instead of powerpoint, and I dont want the program because its useless to me and its an inconvenience. Does anyone have any knowledge on uninstalling the program, or have dealt with the same issue?

The "always use this program" option is not available. It defaults to ppt viewer every time I open any powerpoint associated file. The collective IQ on this message board must have dropped significantly in the past couple years since Ive been on it if people are usually as dumb as youre implying I am. If any of these simple options were available I would have tried them. I am looking for a way to delete this program without having to go to the registry and look for it. Just looking for a shortcut to get rid of the program.

He just wants to uninstall the viewer and can't. Why are y'all busting his balls? I don't have an answer as to why its not in the add/remove programs list. Is there an uninstaller in the start menu with the program's folder?

Also, if you Shift+click a file before opening, it should give you the "Open With..." option, where you can set the default program.

There is no
Quote :
"way to delete this program without having to go to the registry and look for it"
if you don't see uninstall as an option in Add/Remove Programs and don't see an uninstaller application in your Start Menu.

The people you call dumb on this board suggested that you just re-associate .ppt files and ignore the viewer because of this simple fact.

So, you have two options:

1)Re-Associate the .ppt to Powerpoint and STFU.
2)Dick around in the registry to remove the record from the Add/Remove Programs list, and then you will need to do 1) anyway.

I personally suggest 1. If you can't do this by right-clicking on the file, try what davidkunttu suggested.

If it was installed via an Windows Installer (as most Microsoft products are) there should be an uninstall string located in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall just scroll through all the entries listed there until you find the one for the Powerpoint viewer. Look for the datakey that says Uninstall String. Take the data in that key and run it from the command prompt.

If it wasn't installed via Windows Installer, try the Uninstall function in Ccleaner.

You realize even if he removes the entry he is still going to need to associate PPT files to Powerpoint? So why doesn't he just do that and be done with it? Is it running as a service and taking up resources?

Just try being nicer in the future, evan. Tech Talk doesn't need you running around trying to shit on people who know less than you. There's enough of that as it is.
