Rumors on this since last year when Collinsworth called that game in Tampa

I say Collinsworth takes over and Millen stays in the studio, or vice versa

either way, Millen will have a prominent role

I predict that he'll finally retire when he makes the decision to stop working.

I hope this doesn't mean we have to hear Collinsworth in his place.

"From The Washington Post, By Mark Maske

Collinsworth Named Madden's Successor

Cris Collinsworth will succeed John Madden as the analyst in the NBC broadcast booth for the network's Sunday night NFL game telecasts, NBC executive Dick Ebersol announced during a conference call with reporters today.

Madden announced his retirement from broadcasting earlier today, rejecting an offer made Wednesday by Ebersol to work the network's September and November games next season and take October and December off.

Collinsworth had been on the NBC studio show.

"John's successor will be Cris Collinsworth," Ebersol, the chairman of NBC Sports, said during the conference call. "... Cris has always given us the luxury of having the two best broadcasters.""

Collinsworth>>>>Madden

Madden adds nothing to a broadcast except unintentional humor

Are you serious? It's hard to beat Madden. Even though he was getting up there in age, I still thought he was better than 90% of the other commentators out there. The combo of him and Al was great. I don't mind Collinsworth, but he makes smart ass comments on just about every play and it starts to wear on me around halftime.

Caliendo better start practicing his Collinsworth impressions

ncstatetke beat me to it. It will be a sad day when the real John Madden retires. The other guy can just go sell more foot cream.

Gonna miss him, hopefully Collinsworth acts like he has sense now that he won't be doing B- and C-grade games on the regular

I just don't get people who think Collinsworth is a good commentator. What does he bring to the table? Why do people like him?

^I've been pushing for zero commentating for years. The void would be filled by placing microphones throughout the stadium. You just tune in and hear the roar of the crowd.

At least make it an option via SAP.

Agreed. Michaels/Madden were my favorite broacasting team by far. Glad Michaels isn't hanging it up just yet, but John will be Missed.

I would LOVE this. Apparently for some sporting events in the UK they have this option for a lot of games, I don't understand why nobody has tried it yet. I don't think it would work out to do this on the regular audio channel because some people would be lost or get bored, but on SAP it would be perfect.

I would really love it if networks could figure out how to do it for the NHL playoffs, that's really when I want to hear the crowd

in better news, it looks like Stephen A. Smith is going to be gone for good from TV (he's already been fired from his radio show)
