I find it interesting that people knew about it an hour before the decision was made in court because it had leaked. Obviously the court system can't even keep things from being leaked out early . 4/17/2009 10:31:26 AM |

The public knew cause one of the defendants posted it on his Twitter feed after it had been leaked internally, haha. 4/17/2009 10:35:09 AM |

In Sweden? No clue. Apparently a court reporter told someone who told him, then he released it via Twitter. 4/17/2009 11:35:37 AM |

Quote : | "It turns out that Judge Tomas Norström—the judge who found The Pirate Bay defendants guilty and slapped them with jail time—is currently a member of the Swedish Copyright Association, an organization that works against piracy along with a number of entertainment industry members. As a result, lawyers for the defendants have made it clear that they will push for a retrial.
The Swedish media dug up information this week revealing that Norström is a member of the Swedish Copyright Association along with Henrik Pontén, Peter Danowsky and Monique Wadsted—individuals who represented the recording industry in The Pirate Bay trial. Additionally, Norström also sits on the board of the Swedish Association for the Protection of Industrial Property, an advocacy group that pushes stricter copyright laws. " |

FIGHT THE POWER!
Seriously though, that is messed up. I thought judges were supposed to generally be aware when there was a conflict of interest and to be able to refuse to take a case for just that reason.
Am I totally wrong in my understanding of how most western legal systems work? 4/23/2009 3:29:02 PM |
dubus Veteran 311 Posts user info edit post |
^Exactly right actually. The problem is (and I don't know Sweden's legal system) it seems as though it was his choice to recuse himself from the trial, and he choose not to because he thought he could be impartial. Considering he is a member of more than one copyright organization, they could very easily use this to push for a mistrial. 4/23/2009 3:36:55 PM |

...the new owners plan to make it a legal service that allows "content providers and copyright owners [to] get paid for content that is downloaded via the site."" |

Is $8,000,000 the most ever paid for a .org domain?
According to squidoo, only 10 .org domains have ever sold for $50,000 or more, the highest being $150,000.
Guessing they're still gonna go with the Pirate theme
