"ESPN Shakeup?
by SEC Live News on April 20, 2009

ESPN Ch ch ch changes?.

We are hearing there could be some big changes taking place at ESPN- specifically on your favorite Saturday morning program, College Game Day.

If the proposed changes do happen, Lee Corso is out as the mascot head-wearing former coach on the Game Day tour. Also being replaced is host Chris Fowler. According to our sources, the main sponsor of Game Day, Home Depot, is pushing for these changes and they would be announced later in the summer.

But don?t start packing your bags to go audition in Connecticut yet. The replacements have already been tapped.

Dr. Lou Holtz is apparently exchanging his on-air advice segment for the middle seat on the Game Day bus. He will be replacing Corso as the aging voice of reason and the man who consistently chooses the losing team.

As for Fowler?s replacement, it will be the ESPN Baseball Tonight and Sports Center anchor Karl Ravich. No word on why Fowler is out or what his next move is.

Additionally, Kirk Herbstreit will be moving to prime time announcing with Brent Musburger for the night games.

There will also be a new face joining the TV analyst crew for the day games. Word is former coach Tommy Tuberville is in talks to be the next Bob Davie as ousted coach turned commentator. The deal is close to being signed, sealed and delivered."

if Lou Holtz is on Gameday i'll probably never tune in again.

the Herbstreit move is ok, i figured he'd move on sooner or later to stop having double duty.

And Fowler over Ravich...i mean the talking head moderator isn't really that important but if ESPN new they were going to make this move they could have not spent all the time and money on those Kruk/Ravich baseball tonight buddy commercials.

I'm sure Holtz is a nice enough guy, but I cannot stand to hear the poor guy talk.

they would be idiots to do this, they have a brand/name/face recognition that is untouched in college football

College Game Day is the best show they have because of Corso, Herbstreit and Fowler. Leave it to ESPN to fuck up a good thing.

I hear that the crew for Sunday Night Football next year is changing too. They're replacing Keith Olbermann with Al Gore because NBC wants to have more of an environmental take on sports. Emissions from the stadium's electricity will be reported throughout games. Also, Bobby Cremins will be doing color commentary.

Tim McCarver will be performing all announcing duties for the World Series to save money.

I mean I could see perhaps changing out Fowler for Rece Davis. Rece does a pretty good job of hosting the basketball version of College Gameday as well as College Football Live, etc. I have to have Corso put on the mascot head and Herbstreit's level headed, unbiased analysis. Also Davis went to Alabama, so you know he understands football, it's traditions, and how big it is in the South.

Raycom fans are in for a surprise this season, as former NC State Wolfpack star Ron Kelly will be teaming up with Mike Hogewood to cover ACC basketball.

I, for one, just cannot understand why Fox would choose to replace Joe Buck with the decomposed corpse of Harry Carey. What are they thinking?

"Corso expected back for '09 season

ESPN College GameDay analyst Lee Corso recently suffered a minor stroke, but plans on being back for the kickoff of the 2009 college football season.

Corso suffered no permanent damage in the minor stroke, which was caused by the blockage to a small artery, according to a statement from Corso. He is expected to make a full recovery.

"This is just a small bump in the road, " Corso said in a statement issued by ESPN. "A 'not so fast, my friend' in my game of life. I look forward to making a full recovery and returning to ESPN for my 23rd season analyzing the greatest sport in the world -- college football."

Corso, who played collegiately at Florida State, is a former head coach at Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois. He also coached the Orlando Renegades of the USFL.

He joined ESPN in 1987. "
