Mine are stuck halfway into the gums so they get food stuck in them and it takes forever to get them out. They also hurt like shit at first but not so much anymore unless I fuck with them.

Should I have them taken out, I'm a little scurred but at least I'll get some good meds when they are done.

How is the pain? How much meds do you get? How long before you can eat?

Just chewed some toast with the tooth (covered with gum) and it still hurts a little.

there are so many threads on wisdom teeth, just search to read all of the stories

there are two kinds:

'it was nothing'

and

'it was a horrible experience'

go to an oral surgeon, much less pain/awareness. they sedate you with an IV drip and you kind of just phase out..I came back in but they noticed I was waking up and knocked me back out. they can even give you a topical anesthetic for the IV so you feel it less. all 4 of mine were impacted so my healing time was a shitty 2 days but you're pretty out of it with all of the vicodin they give you.

oral surgeon ftw.

I'm not so sure, I'm not too good with IV's.
I know most people use novocaine but has anyone tried the Nitrogen gas? What does that do?

doing nothing there was no pain but eating was so painful that I didn't eat nothing but soup and mash potatoes for a little over a week (couldn't open mouth or chew). They stuck iv in and I was instantly knocked out.. well maybe a few secs.

Sister made fun of me on how I was but when it was her turn she was complaining a lot more.

oh and i didn't take any pain pills as those make me throw up.

I didn't take any of the vicodin they gave me when I had my teeth out, but I did take the big fat ibuprofen pills they gave me. Reducing the inflammation helped out a hell of a lot.

I had 2 impacted and 2 which were on their way in that just had to be cut out. I did the oral surgeon route with IV sedation. They used nitrogen at the very beginning to try to make me relax, but I didn't like that shit. I hated the way that junk felt.

Woke up once during surgery and felt a faint cutting/chiseling sensation in the roof of my mouth on the right side where one of the impacted teeth were, but maybe they noticed my eyes open a bit and juiced me back up.

After I got home I was very tired and weak and bleeding a little bit into the gauze. Then I went and threw up blood. Twice. That was interesting. Swished with a bit of water gently, spat it out, put in new gauze, sipped a tiny bit of water just to make my throat feel a tiny bit better, passed out for 4 hours.

From then on it was just starting slow with REALLY soft foods and slowly working my way up. My jaw was ricockulously sensitive for many days before I could attempt to eat solid foods again.

I'm terribly happy I did the oral surgery though, except for the fact that that fucker brought me back in to cut a blister or wart or something off the bottom of my tongue with a laser. Was conscious for that, including the needle going into the tongue, and including the part where the black smoke from your burnt tongue curls up into your nostrils and treats you to the smell of your own burning flesh. That was much more miserable for me than some fucking wisdom teeth. I never want to do that bullshit again.

Damn that sucks. Wonder why you threw up blood, maybe they let it drip down your throat during surgery

That is my suspicion. It was WAY more than was trickling out from my wounds at the time (like I puked and went "oh shit" and then the second time it was "HOLY FUCKING SHIT HOW MUCH IS THERE?"). I'm guessing there was a minor issue during surgery where an artery or a vein or something got away from them. It would explain, in part, why my recovery wasn't quite as quick as I thought it would be.

For your own safety, you never want to be knocked out unless completely neccesary. Anytime you are anesthetisized you run a risk of complications. When I had mine taken out the surgery was the easiest part (4 cut out in 3 seperate times), even with just a local. The shots hurt a little bit, but once its numb all you feel is a little bit of pressure. Well, actually, a pretty good bit of pressure. But it hurt pretty bad after the numbing wore off, I lived on mashed potatoes for 3 days. They gave me percocet for a week, I didn't take it though because percocet doesn't do much for me.

How long before you can take the gauze out and it stops bleeding?

You pretty much need to be knocked out, unless you hate yourself, if you're getting impacted teeth out, though. The methods they have to use are.... You need to be knocked out.

And yeah, you run the risk of complications, but they don't want you conscious and freaking out during that sort of major surgery.

^exactly

if they're impacted into the jaw or going in sideways or anything not fairly normal, you don't want to be awake for that

lots of cutting, crushing, cracking, and removing in pieces, then stitching your gums back up

plus the whole I'm gagging on blood the whole time/what was that I felt, etc

if you've got a good imagination you can freak yourself out pretty good just to the sounds, I've had like 8 regular teeth pulled (most baby, a few adult) all under locals only and getting your head/jaw jerked around accompanied by some very interesting sounds isn't that good of a time
