So after the Hurricanes game on Tuesday I got pulled over for 54 in a 45 -- /gay. Anyways, is it even worth going to my court date for this or should I just pay the fine and mail it in?

Will 9 over affect my insurance at all? I haven't had a ticket in 8 years. Also, how would I go about getting it dropped? And would I still end up paying court costs?

what's the whole story?I don't buy that you weren't doing anything except driving 54 mph in a 45 mph zone. It is almost unheard of for a cop to write up a ticket for that. My guess is that you were either doing something else, too, or you were going more than 9-over, but he reduced it on the spot and just wrote it up for 9-over to save you from having to take it to court. If that's the case, I probably wouldn't bother with it.If he did no-kidding ticket you just for speeding by 9 mph, then you might can fight it if you want. Call James Crouch. On the other hand, if you don't get tickets routinely, you can just pay it and be done with it, unless you want to make a stand just on principle. If you haven't had a ticket (or at-fault accident) in the last 3 years, if won't affect your insurance. Just don't get anything in the next 3 years, or you'll get hit with the points for BOTH (i.e., a 9-over ticket actually DOES put "points" on your insurance--which, incidentally, are NOT the same thing as license points...but insurance companies waive them and don't charge you extra until you break a certain threshold--typically 3 insurance pts.)

insurance companies don't waive them per se, they're required by law not to raise your rates b/c of it

I think it's actually the other way around. They are NOT required by law (set by state insurance commision) to raise your rates until you have 3+ insurance points, and none of them do.again, not positive about that. my dad is in the insurance biz, so I just ask him when I have a specific question. On the other hand, there is never a time when I don't have at least one ticket in a 3-year span, so I don't really worry about the rules on waiving points. It isn't a factor.

even when you are in a accident and it is totally not your fault, your insurance still goes up....the rich get richer...

Negative, just 54 in a 45 -- was driving back from the hockey game and got pulled -- don't know if they were looking for drunks after the game or what (I was DDing thankfully). Thought it was a pretty douchebaggish thing to get stopped for 9 over.

i got pulled for making a left turn in a no-left-turn situation one night that i was DDing peoplecop was just hoping i would be drunk...i even told him that I had just dropped some people off and he was like "i detect a hint of alcohol in your car" (my car had absolutely no alcoholic odor) but i didn't argue with him because i knew the worst that was going to come from it was a ticket for the illegal left turn (i didnt even know it was an illegal left turn at the moment, but i can see why it was i guess)i had to follow a pen with his flashlight shining in my eyes (i didnt have to get out of the car or anything) and i guess i aced his test. when i asked him where any other illegal left turn intersections were in the area he responded with "thats a good question..."the whole time, a second cop had pulled behind him, also with his lights flashing, and was standing on the other side of my car with his flashlight shining into my carthe only thing i could think at the time was "what would a drunk person do right now...dont do it..."ticket was like $90 i thinkall this was in Charlottesville...lame UVA cops[Edited on April 26, 2009 at 1:11 AM. ^^^ [NO]^^ personally, i'd call James Crouch and see what he could do. He'll tell you if he can't help you. Don't waste a PJC on it, but I'd fight it just out of principle if I thought I could get it dismissed.

crouch is the dude. I let him know about some of my repeat customer buddies and he hooked me up.

I've used crouch (well someone else in his firm i believe) and it worked out really well. I paid less than the fine was for and this is AFTER missing the original court date. This legal system is so flawed. Oh well.[Edited on April 26, 2009 at 10:05 AM. Reason : .]
