You can get a several mile radius from the phone tower, the tower can't tell you where specifically the call is happening. Two towers would narrow it down significantly, but you need a gps enabled phone to get specifics (which takes a second and a half, so don't think hanging up soon enough will save you like it does on the movies)

its hard to be anywhere now where only 1 cell tower would pick you up.

anyways, all cell phones can be traced with the e911 system, if the government really wants to.

^I would bet not all phones come with the locators necessary to back that up. Plus, with my old phone you could turn off the emergency gps locator. There is a way to protect yourself!

original e911 tech does not depend on gps, but rather telelocation.

BTW, don't let TV and movies fool you. Tracing a call locates you almost instantly.

nah e911 functionality is mandated by law

every phone I've had allows you to turn it off for everything BUT e911, so really you're not gonna be able to get around it

you turn it off by pulling that chip out if you can find it... otherwise just take out the battery and never turn it on again

well, 3 or more towers...

with only two, you get two solutions

Most towers have multiple antennas and more than one transceiver.
