do you have any idea how many rap songs have sampled the opening drums alone?

seriously that would be an interesting question to have answered, cause its a bunch

I'll have to check out that link later...I know the Bliss record came out in 1973 but I don't have time right now to listen to the whole youtube link you posted

He basically says that Amen Brother by the Winstons predates Melvin Bliss by 8 years. This song was put out in 1969 and Synthetic Substitution in 1977. He also goes on to talk about how the Winstons never really fought for their rights to the drumbeat and the hypocrisy and cutthroatism that is seen in corporate copyright industry. Its actually a really good presentation if you can stand tabbing it over and listening to it in the background of whatever you're doing. Theres a lot interesting revelations. One comment in the comment box said "... you will never hear surf music... again." Which is pretty damn true.

interesting stuff...do the knowledge...i do like the bliss track better and think the break sounds better at lower beats per minute, but good lookin out on the link and the source

also sounds like the Winstons were a lot cooler about letting people creatively sample than say...Chuck D

on another note, the beat at the winston's tempo was probably the #1 played beat on lunch tables in my elementary school cafeteria
