I need to get an antenna for my home stereo. The receiver has a coax input for a 75 ohm antenna.
Is this what I need/any other options (cheaper, local)?

I'd be suprised if you couldn't find one at Wal-Mart or Radio Shaft. 5/2/2009 11:07:12 PM |

ok, I'll check Walmart then. I've never seen a coax fm antenna on a home receiver so I wasn't too sure about it 5/2/2009 11:21:07 PM |

I believe a standard dipole rabbit ears with transformer will do just fine for you.
A single wire about a meter and a half long works well too.

We were up at my friend's place in the mountains of VA off the parkway. Drunk and wanting to listen to music, we hit up the stereo system there. No reception - antenna not present. So I made one from 3 conductor electrical wire, cut to ~1 meter, with opposing ends twisted together (ie, pos+gnd on one end, gnd+neg on other). Result - full wavelength 100mhz antenna. Worked pretty damn good. 5/3/2009 6:22:38 AM |

how did you guys attach it? I don't much about this stuff. I'm talking about a coax input, just like cable tv.

A matching transformer is what you need. They have them at Radio Shaft; at $5.49, it's a colossal rip off.

I'd still be very suprised if you couldn't find both of these at Wal-Mart.

I've been meaning to buy a decent one for a while. I hate when my NPR gets all staticy. 5/11/2009 11:22:03 PM |
