how much of a hassle are they? and ethically is it good to keep one in a high rise apartment?

welcome to the world of pets

African Grey's are cool because they not only talk, but they mimic voices. My mom's sounded just like my Dad. Which was REALLY creepy for about 2 weeks after he passed away.

I'm not a fan of having a bird as a pet, ethicallyI can't see how it could be much fun to spend 95% of life in a cage slightly bigger than you are
5/3/2009 5:50:50 PM
^i agree 100%. apparently its ok for people though, seeing has as we're forced to live out our days in the luxurious office accommodation known as the cubical.
5/3/2009 5:56:14 PM
any "cool" pet is a pain-in-the-ass expensive high-maintenance pet
5/3/2009 8:25:39 PM
i'm learning this to be true. how about spiders though? i've been considering this too ...

5/3/2009 10:28:02 PM

well trained adult parrots can be kept out of the cage most of the time actually, if you had the means or the proclivity you could devote a whole room to them, though you might have to either really train them to poop in one spot or be ready to clean the floor pretty regularly.

You have to really love birds to enjoy owning one. They messy, loud, expensive, hormonal/emotional, finicky about who they bond with, and potentially dangerous. Most people who own birds really don't really understand their needs. They are very different from a cat or a dog and they certainly shouldn't be left in a cage all day as decoration.
