it depends on how bent it is if it's so bent that you can't use it and you can't bend it back, then probably not try to bend it back and get a copy made before it breaks

true story....I bent my key....straighten it myself....next day, tried to get into house....key broke inside the lock at the stress point of the bend...called the locksmiththe end

Yeah, its just my mailbox key so not that big of an issue. Last day of last semester, my apartment key bent nearly 90 degrees randomly and bending it back broke it. Fortunately, another roommate was in town so he could lock up and I just had my landlord mail me another key.

I broke a key off while unlocking my car door one time, I had a spare though, so no big deal

Take it to an Ace or a True Value. The key machines that the big box stores use requires you to insert the key and insert the blank into a keyhole. Said key being bent, this probably won't work. Most of the local stores have the older design and they should be able to make it work if you get a more experienced employee.

i've had it done before. they put it in a press and bent it back to it's original shape.

If you're not supposed to make a copy, let the person who gave it to you know, have them do it and pay for it. Also, take a picture too.
