Man, you actually have to have owned a legal copy of one of their games to get in the beta.

I don't know if this comment was meant to be serious, but given the news today and a general understanding of game development times this is fucking hilarious

Sweet, I registered DII: LoD, Starcraft Anthology, and Warcraft III. I wouldn't mind beta testing SC II, but I'd be absolutely floored if I got chosen to test Diablo III.

Woot new Blizzard beta. I'd rather it be Diablo 3 though.

ditto. i could care less about new graphics and animation. just make it so we can adjust the damn resolution and i'll be happy. though you could make the argument that folks with larger monitors have an unfair advantage in that case

I can't believe how useful those force fields were in that match.

Oh yeah, go Protoss.

That was an interesting match. The Zerg player won a lot of mini-skirmishes, but the Protoss player eventually just overwhelmed due to an economic advantage. High level Starcraft matches are really interesting.

^ haha yea that is like me with all RTS games. I love the game and it looks awesome but I go online and get crushed over and over and it loses its coolness. and even if i win it isnt that satisfying

I want to see some carriers! My favorite group back in SC 1 was 10 carriers, a mind controlled science vessel and an arbiter. gg.

^Yeah, I'm sure they did that as an attempt to combat piracy. They want to make sure you login to Battle.net and authenticate your copy of the game before playing. It makes sense, and isn't a real hindrance to legitimate gamers.

Tons of new analysis, videos, and screenshots out today on the various game news and fan sites.

I wonder what percentage of Starcraft/Warcraft/Diablo players are content with just playing the single player campaigns or just playing on private LANs? I would have thought that would represent a fairly small percentage.

Ok, the single players stuff sounds fucking incredible

Quote :
"Dustin Browder: I hope so. It's going to be pretty huge. It's really different than anything you've seen before in our titles. This is sort of a level of choice and options for the player--RTS is typically, you're on the rail man. And if you get a mission you can't beat, I guess you'd better take it back. Well, you can't take it back anymore. [laughs] I'm [thinking] of when you could take games back at [Electronics Boutique].

But you were just stuck right, and that's terrible. But now if you get stuck, you can go, "I'm going to come back to this one. I'm going to go myself something powerful and come back here and make this one suffer." At the same time, I think players--we learned a lot obviously in StarCraft, and I think this team learned even more in WarCraft III, in terms of the kinds of mechanics that you're going to get in this campaign. The kinds of things you're going to be doing in missions, I think is pretty cool stuff that maybe players aren't quite prepared for.

We've got a mission right now where every five minutes, lava rises and kills everything on the ground. Everything dies. You've got to get to the high ground or die. We've got a mission right now where infested Terrans are attacking at night, but they're hiding in the ground by day, so you need to just hold out all night long like you're in I Am Legend. Like, "I've got to live!" and then day, "Get 'em! Kill 'em while they sleep!" And you run out and you burn everything as fast as you can, and then when darkness starts coming you have to get back and hide out.

We've got missions where you're trying to defend a Terran colony that's getting infested one piece at a time, and you've got to try to put out all these fires while fighting off these infested units. We've got this mission where you are a lone ghost trying to influence the course of an entire battle.
So each of these missions is like a little minigame."

^^yea, only reason I like this about SC was that I lost my disk / keys so long ago(way before you could register your shit on their website) so when I end up at a LAN and 8 of us wanna play SC we dont have to worry about getting every single person on bnet to play with each other, just pass around the installer and crack.

No LAN in SC2 kinda sucks, but not really surprising considering most games haven't had that in a number of years. Almost everyone has a router/gateway these days, whereas in 1999 it was a huge pain to setup ICS with a dialup connection on Windows 98.
