I have had a tiny sliver of fiberglass in my toe for about a year now. It is in the long skinny toe right next to my big toe. It came from this busted ass diving board I was jumping off last summer.

You can't see it and there is no red inflamed spot, but I feel it all the time. Whether I'm walking, putting on socks, or just kicking the comforter off my bed the piece of glass will poke the inside of my toe several times a day. I've tried random digging with a needle to try to find the piece, but I haven't had any luck.

It's been close to a year, so it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere if I'm not proactive. Any suggestions? You guys think a doctor might be able to find it?

Doc's can definitely find it. I had a chunk of plastic removed from my hand - he used that heat knife thing that slices skin like butter and it was out in 3 seconds. Wasn't too long to heal either.

Its not exactly a needle in a haystack...the second toe is only so big

They question you should be asking yourself is...is the juice worth the squeeze ?

I mean, this is going to be a tiny sliver. I have looked a bunch of times and I can't see shit which is why I was questioning whether a doctor can find it. I'm envisioning something thinner than a strand of hair and very short.

i used to shoot archery competitively and i was (ironically) teaching archery at a summer camp...a lot of the arrows were old fiberglass deals and on the very last day the other instructors and i were having a competition and when i shot my last arrow of the set, i noticed that it landed all of 5 feet in front of me...i didn't even realize the thing had splintered and half had shot completely through my hand until i reached down to pick up what was left

they wanted to rush me to the emergency room, but i wanted to get pictures first...it took 45 minutes to find a camera and take the pictures, but i'm glad i did...actually, it didn't even bleed for the first 30 minutes, and there was never any blood on the palm side (just the back where you see it in the picture)

the only thing the doctor could do was clip the ends of the fiberglass on either side and take pliers and pull it back through...'twas my first experience with morphine and now i understand the addiction (your spine goes cold!)

anyway, i have no scar on the palm and only a small one on the back...sometimes it'll start to tickle and itch like crazy (the doctor said it will probably always do that as bits of fiberglass work their way out)...i actually pulled out a hair-thin sliver a few years ago
