Buying tires this week.
Do i spend 1k on the Michilin Pilot Sport A/S and hope i get something near the 45k miles
or do i spend around $550 on the BFGoodrich g-force sport and get 25k out of the set. 5/12/2009 11:56:25 AM |

in the end of the day you spend about the same money for about the same distance give or take. 5/12/2009 11:57:32 AM |

Yea, but ehh 1k is alot of bank.
The michilins are all season too which is a perk. Think girp willb e as good as the BFGoodrich. 5/12/2009 12:02:02 PM |

I mean the BFGoodrich would at least offset the 1k instead of one giant lump sum up front you can spread it out over a year (depending on how much you drive of course) and you can get some interest on the other half as it sits in your bank account 5/12/2009 12:07:26 PM |

And the michilins are probably goign to be quieter.

I used the g-force sports as well as a friend of mine, and we both hated them. We were using them as a performance tire, and they just didn't offer the grip or feedback we were looking for. They were decent in rain about the first 5k after that i never felt like i had any grip. 5/12/2009 1:05:29 PM |

What size are you looking at. I'm sure there are more than two options. That being said, I have always done well with BFG, and the one set of michelins I had were all season touring and sucked for me in general. 5/12/2009 2:28:50 PM |

Sumitomo HTRZ
And call it a day.
At $53/tire for my shyte, the tire is unbeatable. I don't recommend them on heavier cars though, due to the fact that they have a softer sidewall than other manufacturers. On my car, these things are ridiculous though. The treadwear rating is poor, 180 I believe, but this doesn't always mean a whole lot. A lot of folks are claiming to get really good mileage out of them. Also, this particular tire uses an old Dunlop tread design from what I've read. This may have something to do with the ridiculously low price on them.
Considering the fact that most of what I do is spirited daily driving, a cheaper yet good performing tire is useful to me. These don't outperform the more expensive tires, but they come really close at less than half the price. I've been very impressed with them so far. The performance is similar to the pricier HTRZ's (I've tried the HTR-Z2's and Z3's) and of course I've found nothing wrong with them so far.] 5/12/2009 2:42:29 PM |

I've been happy with the G-sports on the MSM. They're not GREAT, but they're not bad. Things like road noise and shit I don't worry about only because its going to be loud in my car either way. Not sure how well they'd do with the obviously heavier MS3.
I'm pretty sure my post didn't really help
^ you forgot its a 4-cylinder Direct-Injection Turbocharged Engine churning out 263 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque.*

And that's why I suggest putting HTRZ's on there instead of wasting $1000 on tires that aren't going to last any longer and wont do anything more for you.
Why would you waste that kind of money when there is a product that's just as good at half the price son?
Hell, if you just HAVE to spend a lot of money on tires in order to feel good, get some Kumho SPT's or MX's son. The SPT's did just fine on my miata son. Why would you waste this much money on tires son?! I didn't ever waste money on crap like this for the SRT-4. That shyte had the HTR-ZII's and the HTR-ZIII's son. Those shytes did just fine son and they didn't cost $1000. Don't think nobody else has had a car with a couple of HPs goin to da fronts son. NAW SON.
SPT SON. $125 EACH AT TIRE RACK SON.
Unless I were racing the car and had to have the absolute best, I would find something better to waste that $1000 on son. Are we trying to get an extra .05g's of grip in the corner son? Is that going to matter on your daily commute? Kumho and Sumitomo both offer tires that fit your needs at far more reasonable prices. I've been using these brands for years with no problems.
Oh and while you're at it, get some wide lightweight 16's or 17's. You'll save a lot of money on tires in the long run my son and that shyte is light son. That's a much better way to waste $1000 son. Snag some smaller diameter wheels that are a bit wider or as wide as stock son. Get them with the tires already mounted and balanced son. Simple shyte son.
I went up a size on the miata just for the width son, went to 15x7's son. Now I'm hittin dat HTRZ for $53 a tire son. I'm talkin bout dat 205/50-R15 son. Wit dat 7" width son.... these shits are wide son.... ] 5/13/2009 1:22:41 PM |

haha yeah, I guess that was the last time I was actively involved in the garage.
I will check out the sumitomos.
also, what's a reasonable price to expect to pay for mounting and balancing for 4 tires around here? I plan on ordering my shit online due to having that 190% unemployment and not wanting to have to cut some grease monkey for trying to charge me $650 like last time.
I can go see my dad's shop in goldsboro and they'll do it cheap, but if I don't have to drive an hour, I won't. 5/17/2009 11:23:34 PM |

Michelins are hands down the better tire. Depending on how you drive, that may not matter though. Remember mounting/dismounting tires is not free either. 5/19/2009 4:24:27 PM |

^^ I ended up only having to get 3 tires, it was at Discount Tire on 55
actually, I'm wrong, I looked at the receipt and just saw the $30 charge and didnt think they x3'd it, but they did. My bad. 5/19/2009 7:01:25 PM |

Okay,
Got the Gforce, they seem to grip better than the old tires (but that may be because they are a little wider, and taller).
They seem to be as controlled when they start to understeer as the old ones (This car always under steers). I would say they don't give as much feedback when hey are going to do it, and response is down a little. However, i only ahve about 50 miles on them so who knows? 5/21/2009 9:14:51 AM |
