They kind of sort of hinted last night that maybe the blast from the bomb could have damaged the statue. I only say that because of Sun questioning Ben about when it happened right in the middle of the 1977 action.
I don't think that's what happened (Why everything but the foot? Why wasn't everything else obliterated? Wouldn't that mean that the bomb was always set off in 1977?), but they narrowly cracked open that door.
I'm still not entirely convinced that the bomb actually went off at all. It fell down the shaft and didn't explode, but a rock would set it off? All we saw was a bright light, who knows what that could mean. Moreover, I don't buy into the whole resetting the past idea. That would pretty much mean the end of the show, right? 5/14/2009 3:17:26 PM |

It would also mean that everyone that has died since then is now alive. 5/14/2009 3:24:24 PM |

And in Los Angeles, not on a wacky island running from monsters 'n shit.
There's no way that actually happens unless next season is entirely about Richard, Jacob, and Man #2 -- which would be kind of dumb. 5/14/2009 3:26:37 PM |

we saw the statue in 1977 (or, i think 1974 actually) and it was already destroyed
Quote : | "Wouldn't that mean that the bomb was always set off in 1977?" |
that's irrelevant. We don't know if the bomb went off or not. However, we still have no reason to doubt that "whatever happened, happened". Therefore, if the bomb went off, then it always went off. Miles was right - "don't you guys think maybe setting off the bomb is the incident?" If the bomb didn't go off, oh well - then the electromagnetic event was "the incident", and there was never a bomb involved.5/14/2009 4:20:03 PM |

Quote : | "In the flashbacks, Jacob gave items to only four of the survivors. He gave Kate a lunchbox, Sawyer a pen, Jack a candybar and Hurley a guitar. These are the same names on Jacob's List.
* He gave Jin and Sun their bond of love. It is this love that keeps Sun from leaving Jin when he is in line at the airport. Thus keeping them both on Flight 815. * That was Bea's list, not Jacob's. Pickett even says that Jack wasn't on Jacob's list. * Technically, Jacob didn't give anything to Jack that wasn't already his. He did pay for the candy bar. So it still could be Jacob's list that he gave things to. * Super-technically, Jack had abandoned the candy bar, the next person to take possession (Jacob) had a valid claim of ownership. " |

i'm going to have to stop obsessing over LOST until 2010.. with no new information coming in, my mind is going to run in circles
i feel pretty lucky to watch new episodes as they air, though.. LOST really is something special. long-form storytelling of this scope is pretty rare for network television. 5/14/2009 8:53:29 PM |

I have a feeling next season starts with everything back to normal as if the plane didn't crash, but they are going to have some memory of the island and what happened. Then they will slowly be drawn back together as its their destiny. 5/14/2009 8:56:25 PM |

yeah, well after watching the Full House one, you kind of get the idea and don't need to see the rest. And the Friends one was obviously hurt by using the full song, instead of just the part they used on the show 6/19/2009 9:23:06 AM |

so any good news from comic con? I read that they didn't really drop any "BIG" information...
except that the script for the last scene has been written and is in a lockbox. they are going to reveal it on Jimmy Kimmel the night of the finale....
there was also some interesting "banter" about the bomb at the end of season 5... but i'm not going to post it here. it really isn't a spoiler, but you can search for comic con info if you want it. 7/26/2009 9:29:48 AM |

I've been catching up on the older seasons, and I noticed something that was probably mentioned in the season 5 thread -- To make it back to the island, they had to make everything as close as possible to the way the plane was originally set up, but they may have screwed up - they brought jack's dad's shoes on board to signify jack's dad's body.
But I thought his dad's body never made it on the plane 8/28/2009 1:12:02 AM |
Rat Soup All American 7669 Posts user info edit post |
pretty sure it did. i remember that one flashback scene where jack was in the airport in sydney bitching to the flight attendant about how he just needed his dad's body to be on board. there's also that tendency for dead people to show up whose bodies were on the island and may or may not be manifestations of the smoke monster, i.e. christian, yemi, and now locke.
