i actually knew someone that tried out this year. she went to my HS, and we ran in the same crowd. really grew as a dancer later in HS and in college (dance major at ECU). she didn't make it. i was really suprised. i just knew she would make it when i heard she was trying out...or at least make it to Vegas. all i got/heard was that, "it's a lot different than what you see on TV." she didn't go in to much detail other than that.

so i dunno if that means she really sucked it up, and they said no way. or if there was some kind of TV personality screening and while she had the moves, she wouldn't make for good TV so they didn't take her for that. dunno...

maybe we'll see a skit or two of her on the show anyway...if i see her i'll point her out. she tried out in Memphis.


Interesting that they are already starting auditions for season 6...

1st Brooklyn dancer was amazing...1st Denver dancer was amazing. A few "oh wowthat was sick" but so far no "holy shit!!!!!!!" dancer for me.

I'm glad Brandon tried out again; I wanted him in top 20 last year over Gev (though he eventually grew on me), but this year's audition didn't have as much wow factor for me as last year's. IIRC it was the exact same dance....

There definitely have not been any STANDOUT people yet. I can remember the past couple seasons, you saw the potential top 10, and and bottom finalist stand out early.

But still has promises to be a good season.

I only ever watch this show for the auditions. 1. Most female dancers have awesome bodies. 2. The poppers, break dancers, and creative shit people pull out for the audition is quite entertaining. 3. awful dancers getting smacked down is funny

But once they eliminate all the poppers and start doing normal dances, the rest of the show sucks just like how idol post-auditions sucks.

They need to get rid of the gay judge from the second episode. He's mistaking Simon Cowell's asshole wit for whiny fag snobbery. The former is entertaining and the latter is embarrassing.

well yeah, but a lot of times the choreographers will incorporate the individual styles into whatever genre they're doing, so you'll see the really athletic dudes doing some crazy shit regardless

The show should just be auditions plus sudden death head-to-head battles without the choreographers. I don't really care about the dance orthodoxy. I just want to be entertained with either extreme athleticism, creativity, or hotness.

I don't really understand how they do things on there. I'm sad they cut the red hair girl who was supposed to be amazing with no chance to "dance for her life". I don't undrstand why they give some the opportunity to and not others. Also, the tall kid who had the pictures of Bruno in his jacket, laptop, newspaper, etc. They didn't give him a chance to "dance for his life" but he got to redo the choreography...i'm a little upset, the def play favorites

and it does seem a bit hypocritical- just before she got cut, they saved the quirky frizzy haired girl because her solo was so good. what, and red's solo wasn't? probably adds to what elkaybie said bout "all i got/heard was that, 'it's a lot different than what you see on TV.'"

looked to me like the redhead fit into a mold they already had a LOT of talent in, and she couldnt cut it in other styles as well as other girls. You gotta remember they arent necessarily finding the best dancer, they are trying to put on a tv show that will get viewers, so they have to have a wide range of people, not just in dance styles but also ethnicity etc. The main thing I don't think is fair is that ~50% of the top 20 will be people we havent seen or gotten to know yet, so they have a disadvantage from the start... Still my favorite reality show by far though.

Also from the preview it looks like the last person to get cut will be one of the two broadway brothers, hopefully they just made it look like that to grab attention, but I'll be bummed if thats the case.

When will the networks finally put some worthwhile shows back on TV instead of all this reality TV crap.

When i was a kid we had Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Home Improvement.

Today its just American Idol 11, Big Brother 35, Some show about fat people losing weight, and any other reality TV concept some producer can vomit out of this thinking cap to alleviate the masses of their mundance lives by watching other people do stupid shit on TV.

I would not lump SYTYCD in with the rest of reality TV. The "contestants" have legitimate talent and if you watch the show you can really learn a lot about different dance styles and such.

I agree with you on other shows, but leave this one alone

^^^Be prepared for even more in the fall. They are giving new seasons to a lot of reality shows that typically wouldn't be showing them. The economy is hurting the networks too and its far cheaper to do reality tv then it is to do an actual show.

^^I agree, I think they might have kept him becuase his routines were funny and create a connection with the audience maybe. As Nigel said "We aren't looking for the best dancers, we are looking for the best dance entertainers for this show" or something like that.

mee toooo. and i was extrememly disappointed that one guy was still under contract. talk about amazing. i think the wrong brother got it. so glad brandon made it. mia was really pissing me off about him. i just love his smile and the way he dances. no girl really stands out to me so far. i think the only girl i sort of like right now is the first one they put through, the salsa dancer.

i feel like i have SO much to catch up on...i need to watch the vegas auditions from wednesday night except for the guys' broadway performance & last night's 1st performances. so i did see the top 20 selection, but i haven't seen any of them really dance. hopefully i can tonight and then watch the eliminations tomorrow afternoon after work.
