1) What was the year/make of the car?

2) Where were you located when it happened?

3) Is the car still running/do you still own it?

I don't think I've ever owned a car with less than 100,000 miles on it.

1) '98 Grand Prix

2) I don't know, it happened probably a year before I bought it (2004, bought 2005)

3) Yes/Yes. It's had plenty of minor maintenance problems (AC compressor, window motors, incredibly slow power-steering leak, windshield wiper broke off, at least two other things that I'm forgetting), but nothing that keeps it from driving.

Plenty of cars work just as well at 100k as they did at <50k (and plenty don't, but buying one of those is stupid).

It just happens to be the magic number that drops the price like fucking crazy.

I've heard people putting 200k-300k miles on the jeep 4.0 straight 6 without major problems. I'm sure the transmission or something will get shot but at least the engine could be solid

investing in assets that will depreciate 7-12% year over year is fucking stupid no matter how phat paid a nigga is

particularly considering how many users here have a mechanical background and enjoy working on their own automobiles, and that this is a college messageboard

yet another statement of shocking stupdity from Slave Famous

complete with braindead analogies

but most of y'all aren't in college anymore

I'm not knocking people for driving cars with 100K on them if they bought them with signifcantly less than that and drove them up that far

I'm knocking the people who buy cars with 100K already on them

Buying a car with 100k+ because it doesn't cost much isn't being poor. It's being cheap/frugal.

Buying a car that only hardly works because it doesn't cost much is being poor.

my Miata's about to hit 200k, my Cadillac died before 100k

^ yeah I gave up, he's pretty much a nigger-brained fool. He also thinks not having cable TV means you're poor. It's a pattern of ignorance I'm noticing here that points back to the culture of excessively visible displays of ironically little wealth.

Hell, I sold that Sienna with 320,000 miles on it and still got a good bit of money because the shit was in excellent condition. Freshly rebuilt heads, good transmission, it was on the second set of struts. The back seats were taken out when it was purchased and didn't go back in until a few days before it was sold, so those were brand new looking. The drivers seat did have significant wear from 320,000 miles of use, but whatever.

The shit ran and drove just fine. A good car with 100,000 miles is just getting broken in son.

How often do you drive to put that kind of mileage on a car ?

I've had that Tribute since 2004 and have 33K on it

and I drive 4 times a week

It would take me 15 years to put 100K on them

at that point its not about the money, its about being sick to death of that fucking car

Many, many miles daily.

It was a 1998 Sienna and we owned it from day 1. It ended up being the first Sienna at the dealership to get pretty much every higher mileage servicing because we put a lot more miles on it than other Sienna owners did in any given time period. We're talking about 50k miles a year here son.
