^I can't get the second one (dove).

Though the curve ball illusion that this thread is about is pretty fucking cool.

best i can do as far as embedding...saw this the other day, pretty cool

^the dove is supposed to appear to be the background color when you stare at the dot, maybe you're colorblind

^Nah, I see it now. I was just focusing on it at the wrong time (trying to focus on the dot as it moved across the screen, instead of while it was sitting still).

Also, holyshit at the last one (sculpture).

I think colorblindness definitely hinders the illusion there, but to me it looked like the dove was darker than the white background for about half a second after the background turned white

I thought the green worked especially well but the afterimages all looked fairly similar

the way i first noticed the dove-effect was when i drive at night, if i have the high beams on, i look peripherally at the blue high beam indicator on the dash and then if i look away really quickly, i can still see it (for a 1/4 second) where i look... the key i guess is that the blue is so intense and the car inside is dark.

so that sculpture is all the same piece? kinda cool.

so what's this article saying? breaking balls don't actually break? or that they're on a pretty regular curve the entire way even though it looks like it drops more at the end?

Anyone who plays Guitar Hero knows afterimage. Play that for awhile and then look away from the screen and everything is moving downward.

Same thing happens to me when I look at the ground passing under me for a long time when I'm hiking. Look up and all the trees are moving towards me

so basically, the only way to hit a curveball is to sit on it and crush it

or get lucky?

haha, I got about as far as that guy in rec baseball who would duck out of the way because the ball was coming right for him. I don't know shit about hitting stuff.

that being said I can still hit the fastest machine in the cages*.

*mostly contact

The most frustrated I've ever been in my life was when I went to UNC's baseball camp when I was 9 or 10 and they had one of those pitching machines tilted to the side so it would throw curveballs. They probably threw me 100 of of those things and I may have foul tipped off 3. I've never been so deflated.

Fuck a curve ball.
