I've heard good things about http://www.bluehost.com and http://www.inmotionhosting.com/. http://www.dreamhost.com is popular but I'm not sure about it.
I just ended with my old host and need a new hosting option just for personal webpage and email so the bandwidth doesn't have to be huge but I would like to remain flexible so that I can create a frontend for some personal files and communication with my home network. 5/20/2009 6:11:17 PM |

i'd say dreamhost for best $$/GB value, but i've had some issues with uptime. if you dont need lots of bandwidth go with someone more reliable 5/20/2009 6:17:37 PM |

site5 is good dreamhost is good
personally, i don't like not having complete control over everything... so i'd much rather go with a VPS from somewhere like linode and set things up myself. 5/20/2009 6:23:14 PM |

^^I agree in principle and would provide the most flexible solution but would probably be overkill for my usage and a greater cost but if you know a good host it would be good to have the info on those as well. 5/20/2009 6:34:18 PM |

I haven't dealt with dreamhost in a while, so I don't know if they still have lots of outages, but it's hard to beat this:

The only problem I have with Media Temple is that they're pretty piss poor about telling you about usage overages on Grid Servers. I got an e-mail saying my "estimated" overage was $2 and it wound up being about $40.
For dedicated servers, I never had any issues with http://www.theplanet.com and http://www.softlayer.com (my current host) has been great as well. 5/23/2009 12:55:46 PM |

i have hostmonster (owned by bluehost)...unlimited everything for $4.95/month (prepaid for 2 years)...i've got about 6 sites hosted on them, and i've never had a problem
that said, none of them are extremely high traffic, but for $60/year, i can't complain 5/30/2009 9:58:10 AM |
