hah evans is a big time dog in this one

and actually my head says machida and if i were a gambler id put my money there

but at the same time im the biggest evans honk on the planet and i think rashad is the only guy at 205 that has all the tools to defeat lyoto, i hope to god he does cuz the winner of this fight is hands down the best in the world, not a lot of fights you can say that about lately

hughes is gonna beat the dog shit out of serra and break his back again, and im gonna love it

^haha doh

For some reason I thought machida has been playing this underdog role for awhile since he is so quiet and reserved.

i dont think hes eevr been an underdog in the UFc

its just people dont like his style so as far as being looked forward to it realy wasnt until he fought tito in titos final contracted fight in the UFC, which he was the favorite in that fight and everyone wanted to see him beat titos ass which he pretty much did

Rashad Evans got absolutely embarrassed tonight. I think Machida and Silva would be a sick match-up.

Machida vs Silva, which is probably going to happen at some point, will put half the audience to sleep, the other half leaving early. I guess you could put Herb Sended as special guest referee, but that's about the only thing that would make it less watchable. I kinda wished they had panned to Dana White in the first round last night, because after last month's pathetic headline (Silva vs. Shogun?) I'm sure he wanted to put out something balls-out to make it up to everyone. It certainly didn't start out that way, though.

I kinda fell off the UFC bandwagon. There was actually a fight where Silva didn't dominate?

It's wierd. Nobody's gotten anywhere close to beating Silva yet, but over the last couple of fights he's been so contempt at sitting back and fucking w/ his opponent that Dana's been pissed, apologizing to the fans for putting out such a boring product. It's almost like he's not happy w/ his situation in UFC and wants it to be known. IMO, the only thing holding Anderson Silva back from reaching Chuck Lidell pop-culture status is Anderson Silva.

Forest Griffen fights Anderson Silva in UFC 101. So maybe, hopefully, FINALLY somebody will have the balls to actually fight him. The last 2 Silva fights made me want to hang myself.

if you were expecting him to be more aggressive then you were pretty misinformed

i thought rashad started getting too aggressive too soon

when lyoto came in and attacked and rashad countered off that with the two punches, that was the plan for rashad, to counter machidas counter. that would require machida to come forward and engage which is why rashad was throwing feints, it was clear rashad was never comfortable getting into machidas range enough to create a convincing feint that would make machida come forward and machida just began attacking first while rashad was thinking

rashad admitted as much in the post interview, just another skill he needs to learn but hes young its all good.

and no, takedowns were not rashads answer in this fight, if you aint in range to land strikes you arent in range to get takedowns, rashad is a good and intelligent enough wrestler to know when NOT to try and wrestle and thats why he never shot

I think Evans pride got the best of him in that first round. The crowd started booing some and you could tell he wanted to throw some bombs. Machida looked patient as hell in that first round and barely moved, waiting for his moment while Evans was dancing constantly around him.

Some say Evans got embarrassed, others say he didn't. I have one litmus test. If you lose conscienceness and don't recover by the time the match is called, I say you got embarrased. Don't get me wrong, everyone in that ring would kick my ass stupid, but when you go rag doll on TV in front of millions of people, you're gonna feel like shit. I guarantee you Evans and that French guy feel pretty embarrased today.

That's debatable. He dropped the first against Chuck and Forrest the exact same way he did against Machida.

When you landed 1 clean punch through 2 rounds and got KTFO'ed, you got embarassed.

Off topic but thought I'd post.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/mma/05/26/canseco.mma.ap/index.html

His knees gave out because he was off the juice. Once he starts doping up again he might be a contender. Baseball is a rough sport though….I can see why he would think he could compete as an MMA fighter.

^^not really when you understand what he was trying to accomplish read my above post

thats the best way to deal with the kinda fighter lyoto is, rashad just failed to execute properly

id say he got flustered at how fast lyoto himself was, not just the style lyoto employs especially after that first high kick rashad probably realized it was going to be tougher to counter the counter than he thought

hah one bttt just as an illustration of what rashad was trying to do as i had explained earlier (just found the gif)

you see rashad go for a strike, machida QUICKLY steps out of range an back in with a counter
according to the plan thats well and good, as machida advances with flurries rashad keeps his eyes open and head moving and finds a spot to counter successfully with three strikes to back machida up (3 quick right hooks) no there wasnt much power to them put the plan wasnt to knock machida out cold, that require much more time in the pocket and increase the risk of counter from a simply quicker and more accurate striker...speed and points was the name of the game in this plan bein ligh on your feet to move so machida doesnt land his devastating body kicks, knees and his trips

it was a good plan and rashad the guy that could do it, unfortunately (for rashad honks like me) that was the only exchange he was effective at implementing the plan

its a good blueprint for future machida opponents that have rashads quick hand speed and light footwork...a guy like rampage wouldnt be able to use it, page needs to get it to the mat plain and simple

chuck does not have lyotos speed and reaction nor does chuck move in and out of the pocket

rampage didnt have to worry about movement because rampage planned to counter once chuck landed a blocked haymaker with an instant counter

thats how rampage strikes, protect the head and you dont have to worry about a bodykick from chuck he hadnt thrown any in years

rampage has good reaction speed, but his movement is a little slow, plodding, and intended to deliver power

hes going to have a lot trouble with rashad and machida will just kill himstanding...the difference is page wont be able to get rashad to the ground but rampage could make it to a decision fighting rashad standing for three rounds, so he doesnt necessarily need to take it there plus rashad is a more active wrestler than page

machida will kill page standing but page can hold him down on the ground if it got there and just avoid submissions and deliver a minimal amount of strikes so the ref dont stand em up. even thats a long shot but machida most likely can be laid on
