something like that happened to me once snowboarding:

I was riding down a slope and the back edge of my board hit the icy snow and bit into it, send me toppling over backwards. The back of my head hit the ice/snow and I heard a *CRACK*! I took my toboggan off and felt the back of my head. It was warm and wet, and my head was hurting.

After trying to call my buddies for about 10 minutes (yes, with my hand behind my head to hold my brains in), I finally looked at my hand it was--incredulously--warm water (you know, from snow and a hot head)!

It turns out, when your mouth is open and you fall backwards and your head hits something hard, your mouth with shut and your teeth with crack together.

So, I felt like an idiot, and my adrenaline high was completely gone, leaving me with hardly any energy to get back down the mountain.

Needless to say, the next time I wore a helmet.
