So I'm at home on the computer (obviously) and wanted to go look at some stuff on Demonoid. Apparently the school's distribution of Trend Micro Office Scan now blocks "High Security Risks" websites. This is relatively new as I've been running the school's AV distribution for a while now and have visited Demonoid as recently as a week ago.

Any of you kids got any idea if this is standard policy now? If the school's AV release will be blocking website they deem "unsafe" without a pass-through option?

Yeah, seriously. I meant to ask about this when it blocked me out on my laptop the other day. I had to shut Trend Micro down to get on there. I couldn't find a way to disable that part of the program.

HOW DOES I DISABLE DUMBASS MODE?

They also block "impulsedriven.com", which just happens to be the update site for Stardock games (i.e., "Sins of a Solar Empire.)

Derrr.

^^^ How did you shut it down? I "unloaded" it to no avail. Finally resorted to uninstalling it which did the trick, meaning its a local DNS redirect instead of a network redirect. its also not in hosts file (I know as i was playing with it today for something else). Also affects passthroughs as my host computer with my VM setup, has trend on it, but most of its VMs dont, and they cant get through either.

^I'm pretty sure I just right-clicked the tray icon and clicked unload or something like that. It disappeared and everything worked for me. I don't have it installed on my desktop, which is what I'm using right now, so I can't tell you for sure what I did.

It also deletes some program cracks without any warning. I had to redownload a crack for Ultramon because of that.

and this is all new right? It wasnt doing this as of a week or two ago. If anyone has any information on how to disable this feature or at least have a pass through option for those of us who know what were getting into... that would be helpful.

I think that you can edit the following registry key to turn URL filtering off, but I haven't tried it.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\PC-cillinNTCorp\CurrentVersion\URL Filtering

More than likely because it has a virus in it. It IS Antivirus software. And you guys are pissed because an ISP is blocking access to illegal content, aww so cute.

Is it cute that Chinese citizens are pissed about "illegal content" being blocked at every major peering point coming into the country, and that people have "disappeared" in relationship to the monitoring of discussion and dissemination of "illegal content"?

^^ The crack in question was one I had used before and one that I knew was virus free. It was flagged under Trend Micro's "greyware" screening feature. That's, at least, easy to turn off.

The URL filtering is an actual feature and is not user configurable.

It's also blocking legal content, asshat. That I paid for.

Feel free to step off your high horse any time, buddy.

It has nothing to do with an ISP.
