I am really enjoying the new songs. I don't know if it is the rekindled interest in the musicianship from the band, the lack of drugs, or what, but the new songs are very enjoyable. I am especially liking Ocelot.

Can't wait for Asheville on Tuesday. Should be a pretty good time.

bug really grew on me, took a long long time, used to hate it, had one of those moments with the studio version where it just clicked and i finally dug that song, love it as a set closer/encore

Halloween Festival!!!1 Destination Unknown. Save the Date Oct 30 - Nov 1.

http://phish.com/savethedate/

Been hearing lots of rumors about this happening either at the Empire Polo Grounds (site for Coachella) or Vegas.

Just did Alpine last weekend (night 2 was sick) and still have Gorge, Hartford, & SPAC in August. I really want to do the festival (not sure how I can miss it really) but so much going on in my life... i haven't had an open weekend in 2 months and the rest of the summer is already packed too. Might need to slow down a bit. We'll see.

just saw this as well, 4 states are throbbing and then turn grey: new hampshire, oklahoma, idaho and west virginia

not sure what that means, some people saying that its gonna be held in one of those states but all of those states are way too cold to hold a festival in late october

well, summer tour is over and what a tour it was. gorge was smoking and it's the coolest venue i've ever been to (red rocks is close second).

hartford was the best musically since the first hiatus imo. i had to piss so fucking bad after NICU and started towards the bathroom and was stopped in my tracks when i heard the first notes of forbin's. couldn't believe my ears. somehow i managed to hold while dancing to the finish of mockingbird. then psycho killer > catapult > icculus in the 2nd set! "get off your iphone and pick up a fucking book!"

spac was a lot of fun as well and got my first harpua finally. check out the backwards down the number line if you dl the show. great jamming in there. overall, a great end to the tour.

Set I: Punch You in the Eye, AC/DC Bag, NICU, Colonel Forbin's Ascent1> Fly Famous Mockingbird1, Birds of a Feather, Lawn Boy, Stash, I Didn't Know, Middle Of The Road, Character Zero
Set II: Down With Disease2> Wilson> Slave to the Traffic Light, Piper> Water in the Sky, Ghost> Psycho Killer3> Catapult> Icculus4> You Enjoy Myself

1 Last Played 9/30/2000 (96 Shows)
2 with Reba jam
3 Last Played 12/7/1997 (279 Shows)
4 Last Played 7/18/1999 (191 Shows)

Hartford 08.16.09 Icculus (as transcribbed by Phishpeaks on PT)

This music kind of makes me think that… you know, they used to have music like this back in the old days, when I was a young boy… a lad. You know, those days are gone. And I’m not making this up. When I was growing up – I’m so old (how old are you?) there was no cellular telephones when I was growing up. There were no video games when I was growing up. And I was around for the invention of Pong – the first video game – and it sounded something like this, Pong….

[the bubbling background music (if you can call it that) - like Pong being played on meth (i.e. at frantic, hyper speed) - plays unencumbered for several seconds]

Yes, Pong.

But let me tell you something about you crazy kids with your video games. I see a lot of you out there with your iPhones… and your DVDs… listening to your autotune music. It’s all machines! But what I want to ask you is… when was the last time one of you picked up a fuckin’ book!

Y’know… you see them on the subway, sitting on the park benches. Nobody reads anymore. And I say to you: how are you ever going to learn anything… if you don’t pick up the book?!? And I’m not just talking about any ol’ book. I’m talking about The Book. THE BOOK!!! Pick it up. Put down your iPhones. Put down your DVD-things!

We’re gonna have an illiterate generation soon.

But the four of us, where we came from, everything we learned, it came from a book. A special book; a magic book; a book filled with so much stuff. Stuff crammed on every page: things, thoughts, feelings… love, hate, war, hunger, starvation, happiness… flowers… philosophy… philosophy that can take you – [inaudible] – and just…picked up…the book!. Pick it up! PICK IT UUUPP!!! PICK UP THE BOOK! PICK IT UP!

BECAUSE…THE BOOK…WAS WRITTEN… IT IS WRITTEN…

THE BOOK WAS WRITTEN – IT WAS WRITTEN… ON PAPER! BY, BY, BY PEN! ON PAPER. THE BOOK WAS WRITTEN BY… HAND. THE BOOK WAS WRITTEN BY HAND ON PAPER WITH A PEN BY… WRITTEN BY… CANDLELIGHT! BY PEN! BY HAND! BY… THE GREAT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE… ICCULUS!!!

Written by the great and knowledgeable Icculus!
Yeah, my children are old enough to read Icculus.

A cold and lonely night
F'runnin’ the pace of her fright
Look at her face tonight!
