car ran fine earlier today - no issues - filled up with gas earlier (stopped and started car since then) - cap has been on the whole time since then - skip forward 2 hours
won't start - turn the key and nothing happens - the dash lights come on - but kind of flicker a little bit but stay on - i hear a clicking sound after the key is pulled out coming from what sounds like the place where i stick my key in and the glove box
please help - is it just a dead battery - fairly certain nothing was left on - all of my stuff turns off auto ]] 6/2/2009 2:59:02 PM |

probably is a dead battery. I had the same symptoms in my car and swapped out the battery... everything was as good as new. I, too, hadn't left anything on since it all shuts off when i open the car door. 6/2/2009 3:28:21 PM |

it was the battery
had a friend come over and try to jump it - failed but almost started - when we looked at the battery it was pretty certain it wouldn't start - i've never seen so much corrosion - battery was the original and lasted 75k - not too shabby i guess

almost started?
next time, have your helper rev up their engine to ~2000rpm (and give your car a little rest between tries). that'll get her started 6/2/2009 5:08:27 PM |

if you weren't such a dumbass you would clean your battery terminals once in a while, probably nothing wrong with the battery, but your wires and connectors are fucked, and even if you had started it and it was a dead battery, it woulda killed your alternator with that much load, i swear a fuckin prepubescent teenage girl knows more about cars than you do, stick to the gossip forum you flaming homo 6/2/2009 6:11:52 PM |

Wife went to work this morning, left work to meet a friend for a dress fitting. Now her 2005 Liberty is clicking on crank. Dead battery, right? 7/30/2009 1:12:47 PM |

not necessarily, but that's a good place to start. stick a voltmeter across the terminals. 7/30/2009 1:25:34 PM |

Yup, ground terminal was corroded as hell, battery was measuring about 10.5 with the meter. 7/30/2009 3:31:57 PM |

periodically, you should clean your terminals with one of these (or at least a regular wire brush):
and then spray them with this after you hook the battery cables back up

Yeah, actually, the battery terminal itself wasn't too fucked, but the connector was pretty mangled. It takes a 10mm and I had to jam a 3/8 on there to break it loose (left the vise grips at home). So, I'll be replacing that when I get the chance. 7/30/2009 3:59:26 PM |
