There are a few early response tests out there and it was reliable in my case. I started testing crazy early, like a whole week before my period was due. I tested positive 4 days before my period was due. It was kinda nuts because it honestly went from being negative one day to positive the next day.

Not really, but it can be "more positive." It either changes color or doesn't, but the color can be darker the higher the hormone levels.

The first test that tested positive changed to a very light pink. I had an extra pregnancy test that I used like a week later and it turned dark pink.
