The school I went to has a 5th grade graduation now, though we didn't back when I went there and it was K-6.

I was their commencement speaker once.

The elementary school I work at has one for 5th grade when you are heading out to middle school.

At my sons academy, he had one for Kindergarten. After that its nothing until HS. I got no problem with kindergarten graduation. Thats really cute. But after that? Nah

I think we had some minor ceremonies in 5th grade and in the 8th grade. 5th grade was more like a "legit" graduation (it was just a dumb little thing, kinda fun), 8th grade was more an awards ceremony identifying the kids who had sex with all the teachers and got down and dirty on the principal's dick.

It's up to each individual school I guess.

I had one in 5th grade and in 8th grade. The 5th grade one was really nothing, and both were done during school hours (got out early)

Had ceremonies in 5th and 8th grade....

I actually remember them as really fun - lots of food, didn't do anything at school all day

I never had a graduation before my high school one

Isn't the point of graduation saying you are done with school? After that college is optional. Moving from elementary school to middle school isn't exactly an option

For those of you who did have pre-high school graduations, did that take away from having the high school one?

^^ Nah, the point of graduation is that you beat all those other grades and now get to take on the next series of grades.

It's like the end level music in an old video game.

^^no. did you go to a school that had K-12 all in one or something? maybe they don't have graduations there. but a lot of places have 5th and 8th grade. you don't like, wear a robe. it is mostly just a ceremony where you read "oh the places you'll go" and then eat cake. and your mom cries because you are growing up so fast.

no i went to a k-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Maybe my schools were just too cheap to do anything like that for us

We had end of the year parties. They called it "fun day". They ordered pizza and we all went out to the field to play sports, sign yearbooks, or do whatever we wanted. This was every year though. We didn't have anything different at the end of 5th or 8th. I do remember leaving "last will and testaments" when we left one school to go to another.

I photographed a kindergarten graduation ceremony, it was beautifully done. The kids had rehearsed an almost half-hour presentation of everything they learned, complete with reciting, Bible-history, mathematics, and this insanely cute spelling-bee contest. Instead of shaking their hands when they got their diplomas, the teacher gave them a big bear-hug, sometimes pushing their caps sideways so she had to adjust them before turning the tassel.
