...right after the Western Blvd. exit. Anyone else get caught up in this? I've known them to do lane closures and road work at night specifically to avoid 5 mile backups, but the guys calling the shots on this project seem to think that it's ok to shut down a main road at 3:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon. Just long enough to have the traffic piled up before the commute.

so glad i'm leaving work at 3. i don't take the beltline anyway, but there will be people trying to avoid it and using the roads i usually do.

It was yesterday and two other random days (can't remember which). It isn't consistent and always comes without warning.

its usually only really bad on the beltline between glenwood and wade exits. so maybe the dispersal of cars around the hillsborough exit will even it out.

nvm, i thought you meant they were doing it today

Could be today for all I know, they show up randomly. It would be nice to get a report from people in the area so I can avoid this.

Is it a full paving crew, or are they just patching up the highway?

They are repairing a bridge (Melbourne Rd. http://tinyurl.com/oe9283). I don't slow down to rubberneck when it's my turn at the head of the 'why are they going so slow, no one is in front of them anymore' line, so I can only assume there's 2 guys out there working and the other dozen are supervising.
