So my dad got an HDTV recently and he is unable to pick up some of the HD channels due to low signal levels. The picture is really grainy and sometimes it doesn't come in at all. He called TWC out and they told him he had to run a new, bigger coaxial line to the attic which seems to be impossible. He lives in the country and the line has to run 40 ft before it ever gets to the house and then is split a few times in the attic before the output gets to the living room where the TV is.

My question is that instead of going to all that trouble should he just purchase an HDTV signal booster like this one from amazon?

TWC would provide you with a free signal booster if they thought it would work. They had to run a better line to our house and there is also a signal booster that sits behind on of the tv's that boosts the signal to the whole house. It plugs into a power outlet and then connects to the coax to boost it.

We have an amplifier at my house, it makes all the difference in the world. If we unplug it the picture goes to shit and if we plug it back in it is clear.

^We got ours from TWC, it's not free. It cost us $75.
