I don't get why they insist on buying old luxury vehicles. Is an 8-10 year old Infinity or Lexus with 100k miles on it somehow better than a 3 year old Accord or Camry with half the miles for the same price?

Have you ever heard of personal preference? OMG...I bought an 8 year old Lincoln in 2004...I must be black!!1 (Not that that would be a bad thing, but that's neither here nor there)

People roll in what they want to roll in. Me, I'd rather have something interesting and comfortable with some nice features for my money than something newer and boring, and I'm willing to deal with the occasional repair bill as price of entry. By your logic, I should have passed up my current car ('03 Marauder which I bought used in '06) for a new Civic which would have been the same price. I don't get why you insist on everyone seeing things the way you do.

We are talking about old luxury vehicles here. Why you brought a Marauder into this conversation confuses me. Mercury (and by Mercury I mean Ford) designed that car to be competition with the Impala. the better question to ask is whether or not the idiots who put those hideous rims on those outdated, ridiculous vehicles which are likely to lose their fan belt at any momement know that you have to put different brakes on. those heavy ass walmart rims will not be stopped by standard brakes. and judging by the home garage paint job, it's apparant that safety is not paramount.

8-10 years old with 100k miles isn't a lot anymore. I guess if you're paying $20k for it then yeah it seems like you get the worst of both worlds; but I'd expect almost any well maintained car to run for 150k+ these days without any major work.

I do frown a little when I see low income people rolling in a 20 year old 7-Series or something similar. Then again, they're low income for a reason.

Damn fucking straight the seats are more comfortable. Now it doesn't ride as nice, but that's a consequence of suspension tuning more so than age of parts. I'll give you the shocks. I brought it into the discussion because you seemed to be making the point that no one with any sense should be buying an older luxury vehicle as compared to a newer family sedan, so I was illustrating a similar situation with a sporting sedan instead of a luxury model. I did bring up the luxury model when I stated that I bought a '96 Lincoln in 2004.

Anyway, I'm done here. This is a pointless thread. A discussion on a message board is probably not going to do much to change stereotypes, especially a message board with as much latent (or active) racism as this one.
