Without a doubt, some half-deaf redneck overheard "pig lickin" and thought it was "pig pickin", and spread that wrong term around. A "pig pickin" is already a thing. And this cake has nothing to do with pig pickins, except possibly that these same dumb rednecks have probably started serving "pig lickin" cake, but call it "pig pickin".
