June 22nd - July 5th 2009
TV Coverage: NBC, ESPN and Tennis Channel (anyone know how this works?)
Looks like NBC will be streaming the matches too

Who's your pick?

For the guys I gotta go with Fed. He's got 5 wins there, is coming off his first French win....and Nadal is having knee issues and coming off his first ever loss at the French.

And for the women...I just hope Venus doesn't win. I'm gonna take the safe bet and say it'll be a Russian

im curious to see how Soderling plays here. I am assuming they have updated the world rankings and Soderling should be seeded in the top 15/16. The best finish he's had at Wimbledon was 3rd round, two times.

I think Murray will advance pretty deep but lose in the quarters. Could see a Murray/Nadal rematch.

The gentlemen's draw is selected at 10am on Friday morning.

Federer wins 2009 Wimbledon and breaks the record in front of watchful Pete Sampras. Federer etches his name as arguably the greatest single athlete of all time.

PS: i cannot believe that Federer is not the #1 seed. Nadal got it...that's shocking to me.

^greatest in tennis. if he say, won more titles than everybody else combined in one year, he would be better than babe ruth.

if you took away all his wimbeldons and he was still the highest on titles, better than wayne gretzkey

if the other player was allowed to hit him instead of the ball, better than say, johnny unitis.

Is Nadal's knees 100%? If not, got to go with Federer. If so, I think it's a toss-up b/w both of them.

Nadal is taking this thing. back2back.

Good article in NY Times Sunday Magazine about Rafa's journey to the top of the tennis world:

no way nadal wins this. i'm not 100% on federer winning it. but nadal has shown a lot of weakness recently. maybe it's just injury. but either way he's not taking wimbledon. he had to play one of the best matches of his life to win it last year when he was at the top of his game. and he's down right now. i don't see it.

damn sharapova is back in to the top 25 already

man I have some mild premonition that roddick might actually be able to take this, only if fed gets eliminated beforehand though

what, someone taking back the number one ranking after losing it? if so, i don't think it's that rare. the williams sisters have both done it more than once.

I think had Nadal had an easier draw he would have tried to defend his title.

But he wants to win the US Open to complete his career grand slam.

I think it was players in the past that have had huge number one runs and then lost it and getting it back again so soon or something (or maybe they were talking about going on another multiple year long run) ah well I'm too lazy to look it up

i think nadal should have tried

dont over aggress anything to compromise the us open or any future events, but just go out and try and do what you can

but then again yes,,, i dont feel his knee pain and what it possibly is or is not

i think davydenko can make a good run.

roddick has a pretty easy ride into the 4th, but i expect him to lose there, as he always does.

again, i really want to see Soderling do well after his French performance. he could face Fed in the 4th rd. and Andy Murray could make a splash into the semi's with the draw that he has. then again, he could be the England's next Tim Henman. le sigh.

i usually love underdogs, but i really want Fed to win again, and then win the US Open. he is the quintessential champion, and to me belongs in the ranks of the greatest athletes of all time. i want to see him make history.

so pumped for the action this fortnight!!! check out espn's interactive draw to see potential matchups. pretty awesome

I don't know the results, but I'm going to guess that set was a fluke for whatever the american's name was, and murray won in 4

Wouldn't say that set was a fluke, the whole match maybe was though. All 4 sets were close and Kendrick had chances to take control in all of them, but Murray is just the better player by a mile and Kendrick was playing above his head.

In more current events, Sharapova's opponent is serving for the match right now.

aaaaand it's over

^^i have this fetish when we're in bed and she's been working on a particular shriek

well, i heard the perfect shriek late in the 2nd set and sent her a text telling her which one...and for her to get back to me immediately before she forgot it

so yea she had to throw the 3rd set...sorry but thats the breaks
