I think the Captain really believes that whales are Gods. He literally worships whales like some people worship Jesus. So to him, it's completely normal to attack Japanese fleets that are killing Gods.

i think it is cool because both sides think international law is on their side. i am kind of for the sea shepherds. but i would definitely not give my life for a whale. i mean maybe i would if i knew that if i died NO whales would be killed ever again, but that obviously isn't realistic so...yea. but i like the show!

^^^^Agreed, The sailors are just doing their job. Sea Shepherds should go after the the company they work for that makes the profit from the meat. It will all come to an end when someone gets killed or a ship goes down.

I agree, but I also don't know that they don't go after the companies that profit from the meat.

I wouldn't do what they're doing, but I'm glad they're doing it. Those Japanese whalers are making millions off what they're doing. While almost every other country on the planet has respected the IWC's regulations the Japanese whalers (along with a few others) have had a field day with it since it effectively removed all their competition. Fuck those greedy fucks.

I can't wait for someone on that crew to die because of some hairbrained idea by the self important captain goes wrong. He expects everyone on board to be able to say they are prepared to die for the whales.

I saw it once and one of their small boats went out to find a whaler near dusk. They didn't hear back from them and started freaking out thinking that the whalers had captured or killed their crew.

Later they radioed the japanese and found out that they'd seen their boat and they were just lost.

I am 100% convinced that this was a total bullshit setup by his crew.

If he had been hit by a rifle bullet, it would have gone right through that vest he was wearing (It had no chest plate for high velocity rifle bullet protection that I could see). He was supposedly shot at close range as well, since the only place the bullet could have come from was the other ship and they were right next to it. This wasn't a 1000 yard shot. You also don't hear anything hit him (Bullets do actually make noise) and he doesn't even flinch. Bullets are actually noticeable when they hit you, even with a vest on, although they don't exactly blast you to the ground like they do in the movies. It's normal to have broken ribs and other internal injuries after being shot in a standard kevlar bullet resistant vest though. The recovered bullet was also very large to be an anti-personnel type rifle bullet IIRC.

So now that pretty much leaves us with the theory that he was hit with a pistol bullet, either fired from some kind of sub gun or a handgun. Now, a ship to ship handgun shot that directly hits him in the torso is incredibly difficult and to hit him in the badge is so ridiculous that it's laughable.

So, that leaves us with the Sub gun theory (Like an H&K MP5 or something). This is really the only possibility I see, but I still don't think they would have pulled off this badge shot and they would have continued shooting until he was down if they were trying to kill him. It is also very unusual to have a scope on a sub gun like that and I don't see them making very accurate shots otherwise.

He doesn't get out of the way, he doesn't duck, he doesn't even start running! He's just like, "Hmmmm... I've been shot guys.... Oh, would ya look at that, my whale badge saved my life just like in the movies! That means we were chosen by god! See guys?! I'm the chosen one!"

I fully expect someone to die every time I watch this show.

None of 'those people' have any business what-so-ever running a ship.

The only people who seem remotely competent are the helicopter pilot and the SWO.

The first mate doesn't believe in satellite imagery of ice sheets (though he did leave during the last episode this season).

The small boats are an ongoing disaster. They've injured two people and they lose contact/get lost nearly every time.
