http://wingrace.com/Their dog ate a piece of his toy and got super sick! They're nearly $6,000.00 in the hole after borrowing money to pay for some very high vet bills because the dog needed surgery. They've raised over $1,700.00 so far. Maybe you like dogs, and maybe you like being charitable.More information at the link above.

If it was because of the worthwhile duplicate thread policy, OmarBadu should have respected my superior thread: accurate subject line, concise summary, helpful link, actual results (thanks, Kitty B!), and notable lack of Chance being a drama queen.

I've got many better reasons to give my money to someone else. Most of those aren't a dead end*, **.I mean, I love my cat (and my old dog...RIP Bubs ), and she's my baby. I'm her bitch, and everybody knows it - including her But something about common decency, priorities in life, and common sense keep me from supporting begging campaigns like this. Yes, it can be easily argued that animals > humans, but last I checked, the primary value that pets add to their owner's life is happiness. Since that's something without a price, quit begging for money. *Your pet will die, no matter what. No amount of money stops old age. If you can't afford to keep it alive now, let it go. This is a possibility you accept when you become a pet owner.**: almost all of the donations I've made to individuals are an extra thank you for a service they have already provided, or when there's a reasonable expectation of future contributions/value/service from them, once they're past whatever hiccup in life that has them needing money. Some don't ever even ask for money. And statements like this?

anyone who donates to this is a fucking dumbassif you want to give away money to help a dog, donate to the SPCA or something (though the SPCA gets on my nerves, as well)...funding two purebred pieces of shit, as well as funding the absolute morons who own them and can't manage to save enough money to support what they should have known was going to be an expensive set of pets, makes you more of an idiot than the owners (in fact, at least the owners realized they could milk morons for cash...so maybe they're not so stupid after all)

^^^100% agree. It's not even like $6000 dollars is a ridiculous amount of money. I don't think it's that far fetched to say that any two adults in the US could raise $6000 of "extra" money without begging if they put their minds to it. I can understand these websites asking for money when someone has a dying kid and they're tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt trying to keep them alive, but this is just bullshit. It's a fucking animal, not a person. Sometimes if the animal gets sick you have to decide exactly how much monetarily the animal is worth to you. If you can't pay it without begging then be a responsible pet owner and put the animal down.Edit: So I just read that the dog is 9 years old, which is about the time the breed usually dies anyway. This is what happens when people treat their pets like humans.[Edited on June 19, 2009 at 10:06 AM. Reason : .]
6/19/2009 10:02:22 AM
this is also what happens when youre negligent and don't take away the bone when it gets too small

This hits close to home for me.In the last month, we had a cat fall ill suddenly. We took him to the vet and fully expected him to recover, but one night he vomited, had a vagal episode and died. This was after he'd been in the VSH for a week.As you can imagine, the bills piled up nightly. And the most frustrating thing was he was showing signs of improvement yet all the money in the world couldn't prevent what amounted to cardiac arrest. So while this family's pet has pulled through the ordeal just fine, I can sympathize with the vet costs. And it really makes me consider pet insurance for any future animals.I know not everyone agrees with sinking so much money into an animal, but it's hard for others (including myself) to look at a pet and know that they can pull through something yet tell the doctors to simply "give up" and put the animal to sleep.[Edited on June 19, 2009 at 10:22 AM. Reason : Granted we're not asking for money. We realized the consequences of keeping George in 24-hour care.]

My husband has spent at least $5K on three separate surgeries on his dog. None were really optional.I didn't agree with his choices, but you know what? He's an adult, it's his money, and it's his dog. Whether or not I agree is irrelevant. (In keeping with your initial response)He didn't go into debt at an inopportune time to take care of these issues. He didn't agree to the surgeries, knowing he couldn't pay. He didn't ask strangers for money afterwards.

6/19/2009 6:22:52 PM
I like dogs at all, but that $6000 in charity could keep a youth center open, or help pay for surgery on a human, or help set up a source of clean water in a 3rd world country. If a dogs life matters than they would be saving a dogs life by adopting it to replace this one.
