This morning at Starbucks, a man offered to buy my latte. We were in line, chatting about the weather (of all things) and he was smiling and somewhat flirty. When he got to the register, he ordered for himself and asked if he could buy my drink as well.

I was sort of taken aback, cuz this kinda thing doesn't happen to me that much. I thanked him but declined, and nervously brushed my hair out of my face with my left hand (to show my wedding ring). He said OK and went on his way. End of story.

Should I have let him buy my latte? Is that considered "wrong" in the realm of marriage to let another man you've never met and will likely never see again buy your drink if he offers? I mean, he saw the ring, he's not stupid. And it's his money.

What say you, oh wise TWW?

No you should not let him.
If he were an old friend it would be different, but not some random dude you were chatting with in line.

Well, just think about this: Right now, your head could be pounding against his headboard. You could be getting railed by a new and exciting, strange man.

Oh well. Back to the boring status quo.

if you did, it'd give the implication of interest in them. even though its tempting to get a free drink, you'd be giving off the wrong vibe and ultimately losing karma points.

now if it was something more expensive than a coffee, like a large meal, then sure

one thing's for sure, i'd have sprung for the Venti if he was buying

and actually, this isn't really about getting hit on, it's about what is and is not appropriate when you're married. letting a stranger buy you a latte seems harmless enough, but i wanted tww's opinion.

and i ain't gonna lie, it was flattering that he offered and made me smile the whole way to work.

it would not give the implication of interest. its a latte in the early AM. some times men enjoy a decent and entertaining conversation and out of gratitude and nothing more would buy a 3 or 4 dollar coffee when they're already purchasing theirs.

if he wanted to know if you were interested he would have just asked you out. its that simple.

most of the time girls are too ignorant to realize when they are getting hit on / picked up. his intentions were to eventually insert his penis into your vagina.

step 1 - get hit on by other guy
step 2 - realize current relationship is unfulfilling
step 3 - make up reasons to break off current relationship that victimizes you
step 4 - run off with new guy

rinse, repeat

^i'm married homey, i don't think a guy offering to buy my $4 latte at starbucks is gonna make me leave my husband.

i'm actually inclined to believe this is the scenario from this morning. mainly because i'm a fatty and what self-respecting man wants to fuck a fat chick?

he's probably the same guy that used to hang out at Global Village, show girls his Lamborghini parked outside and ask them to dinner.

^hahah a guy used to do that?

^^^my current relationship is great! you can't tell me you haven't been in a relationship in which you are completely satisfied and had another person you don't know hit on you. because certainly it's happened, and all it does is make you feel good about yourself. and the fact of the matter is, i've been losing weight and slowly feeling better about myself, so yes, this guy seriously made my morning by offering to buy my latte, whatever his reasons. i declined, but it still felt good to be asked. you can read into that however you will. but it doesn't mean i'm unhappy in the least.

I likes my wimmens a little on the thicker side. NO FATTIES THO!

It's no secret that lots of men target fat chix...easy pickin's for a fuck and duck. Women with poor or no self esteem are the quickest to jump the bone, in my opinion because: 1. WOW! somebody's actually interested in ME?!! 2. They have this irrational need to make you like them.

i don't know how i feel about this...a drink is harmless, but accepting IS sort of leading him on

the fact is that some people just enjoy doing unexpected nice things...i was in the bojangles drive-through a few years ago and asked the cashier what the people behind me bought and how much it was...she told me and i gave her the extra money for their meal...i have no idea who they were (guy, girl, family, whatever)...it just felt good to do something nice for a stranger (even if they didn't "need" it)

*shrug*

Conversation is free and doesn't need to have a stigma attached to it. Buying drinks on the other hand is completely different. You're fucking naive if you don't understand why a guy would be buying a drink for a woman he just met.

I would like to say I"m sure he was just being nice, but I also am super paranoid about accepting drinks and would be worried as to whether or not it had Ketamine, etc, in it.

well i'm a guy, so i think i would have some keen insight.

furthermore not all men resort to that at 8am on the way to work. i've offered to pay for small items before, such as cups of coffee, for no other reason than i enjoyed the conversation. in fact when i just leave with out trying to pick them up they have been rather confused so i can understand why one might assume the intent, but i stand firmly with my statement that it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I don't think I'd have to worry about that at Starbucks. This guy wasn't behind the counter making the drink.

^2 I've talked with girls getting drugged in open places, at random times. Trust me, it can happen... You look away once then BAM your drink is laced with some crazy shit that will be out of your system by the time you come to thus allowing the perp to get away with said drugging.

You are really too paranoid if you think that something like this is gonna happen at Starbucks. Especially since, if I'd let him buy the drink, I'd have immediately walked out the door, gotten in my car, and driven away. It's not like I was sticking around to chat. I was on my way to work.
