^^^ I'm also positive that you could do it if you had a solid plan, especially if you had no link or involvement with the person. I'm just saying that the chances of getting caught despite all that are too high, and so are the stakes, and the best-case scenario is that you would have to worry for a long, long time if you were going to get caught.

^^ What did I say that you take any issue with? In the hypothetical scenario I mentioned, where I knew for a fact that I wouldn't get in trouble for it, it would be a done deal. The only things that could be disputed would be (a) whether I could find him, and (b) whether I'd have the nerve to kill a human being. I think I could manage (a), and I assure you that (b) would be no problem.

I don't see what's mutually exclusive there. There's no reason why you can't be a cold-blooded killer when the situation dictates, yet still a tender, loving, gentle father. The only difference between a soldier, attack pilot, SWAT sniper, executioner, etc and what I described is the vigilantism aspect.
